As Yamada walked into his room, he glanced at the time. 5:17 PM. His eyes widen in surprise. Time had went by so quick! He glanced around his room to see his book still opened at the same page he left off earlier. That was when he realized that he forgot about school and studying throughout the time he was with Takaki.
He scolded himself for wasting precious time after being tricked by Daiki. Yamada was so gonna find out what that was all about the next day.
When he sat down at his desk, he sighed and picked up where he left off. As his eyes scanned the page, his mind drifted off to what happened earlier.
"Last time I checked, chushy and squibby weren't words. Are you sure that you're an 'A' student?"
Yamada mentally smacked himself for even saying those words. He was thinking of both the words chubby and squishy and somehow wanted to say both words at once... and that was the result of it. He really should think before saying stuff.
Flashbacks of moments came to mind and he smiled and laughed each time. It was definitely fun. And maybe his imagination took over a bit.
Takaki leaned over and pinched both his cheeks. "Cute~" he complimented, his face getting closer to his own.
Yamada felt his breath hitch as he, too, closed his eyes.
His loud ringtone interrupted his fantasy and he jolted at the sound. He quickly answered the call, snapping out of it. "Hello?"
"How was the date?" a familiar smug voice asked.
"You were the one behind this!" Yamada exclaimed.
"You didn't answer the question~" Ryutaro sing-songed.
Yamada could imagine that look on his face. "He's a jerk," he stated. A good-looking jerk.
"No way!" Some shuffles could be heard on the other line. "Dai-chan~! Didn't your friend say that it went well? And he wanted to go on another date?"
Yamada blinked. "Takaki-kun said that?" he asked, wanting to know more. "Did he say anything else about me?"
There was a slight pause on the other line. "Hmm~ Did he say anything else, Dai-chan?"
More rustles were made and then Daiki's spoke. "Takaki-kun said you were chushy and squibby... What's chushy and squibby?"
Yamada bit his bottom lip, trying to suppress a smile. What was Takaki doing right now?
"Yama-chan? Yama-chan? He's not answering..."
"Give me the phone. YAMA-CHAN! ...Takaki-kun wants to meet up with you later."
Yamada shook his head. "Wait... Takaki-kun what?" Ryutaro began to snicker in response. "What's so funny?" Yamada pouted, laying on his bed. "And what did you say about Takaki-kun?"
"You like him, don't you?"
"N-NO!" Yamada quickly denied, feeling his cheeks growing red. "He's a jerk... who makes me mad... and drinks from the same straw from my smoothie..."
"You know... you're not making any sense at all," Ryutaro commented. "But if you want to see him again, same place and time as yesterday."
"Okay!" Yamada got up and began rummaging through his closet. "What should I wear?"
"I dunno. Maybe a maid outfit?" Ryutaro suggested casually.
Yamada frowned as he looked. "A maid outfit? Hmm... I don't think I have..." That's when he realized what Ryutaro had just said. "What the hell, Ryutaro?!"
Ryutaro's evil laughs resounded in his ears and Yamada hung up on him. He smiled as he picked out his outfit. Yamada was looking forward in seeing Takaki once again.
-----------------------------------------
Yamada got to the cafe an hour earlier but what he didn't expect was for Takaki to already be there. The brunette boy was sitting there, drinking of what seemed to be a strawberry smoothie. By instinct, Yamada wanted to hide when Takaki spotted him.
"Whoa, you're here early," Takaki commented as he beckoned him to go over.
Yamada shifted a bit as he slid into the seat with his head down. He couldn't help but somehow feel embarrassed. "Same to you."
"I couldn't wait to see you," Takaki told him, which made Yamada blush even harder. His heart was pounding against his chest and he wasn't sure on what to say. "I know that you couldn't wait either."
"That's n-not true!" Yamada retorted. "Don't be so full of yourself!"
"Hmm...?" Takaki cocked his head to the side while staring at him with those eyes. "Then how come you came an hour earlier like me?"
Yamada looked away, not wanting Takaki to see his face nor answer. "I was thirsty."
"Right... You want a strawberry smoothie?" Takaki asked nonchalantly.
"Yeah... how'd you know?" Yamada murmured, fiddling with his fingers.
Takaki chuckled. "Well, it seems that you have some sort of strawberry fetish." Yamada was about to protest when he felt a hand on his own. He froze and slowly looked up. "I already got you what you ordered."
"Ehh?" Yamada blinked as Takaki pushed forward the glass of pink fruitiness. "You already drank some!"
Takaki laughed. "Like we haven't already shared an indirect kiss already," he smirked, leaning closer.
Yamada backed away and pouted. "I want a different straw," he stubbornly said.
"Fine. Umm... excuse me, waiter," Takaki called out. "Can I have another straw?"
"Of course," the waiter replied and bowed. He went behind the counter and retrieved a pink straw and handed it to Takaki.
"Thanks." Takaki stuck the straw into the smoothie and smiled at Yamada. "Your new straw."
Just as Yamada was about to reach for it, Takaki drank from the smoothie with the new straw. "...hey..." He puffed out his cheeks and glared at Takaki.
"Well, it is a different straw," Takaki pointed out, shrugging.
Yamada stayed there with a frown. Takaki was indeed a jerk. What was he thinking? Why was he looking so forward to this anyway?
"Look, you're smart enough. It's not like you're going to get cooties just because we drank from the same straw. Or do you still believe you will?" Takaki raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not a little kid!" Yamada exclaimed before snatching the smoothie and drinking it. The strawberry flavor was indeed good as always.
"You totally are," Takaki grinned.
"...I have to go home and study," Yamada muttered, standing up. For some reason, knowing that Takaki thought that he was a little kid upset him.
"At least let me walk you home," Takaki said, holding onto his wrist.
Yamada directed his eyes down and nodded. While they walked back, Takaki didn't let go and Yamada didn't mind. He felt comfortable and nice though he wished that Takaki was holding his hand. As much as Takaki was a jerk... he had to admit.... he already fell for-
"Yama-chan..." Takaki's voice interrupted his thoughts and he glanced up. "We're already here."
"Ehh?" And indeed they were here again. Somehow a wave of deja-vu washed over him. This was like yesterday. "Ohh..."
Takaki placed his hands on Yamada's shoulders, staring into his eyes. "Do you really want to go back home already?"
Yamada swallowed and got lost in Takaki's gaze. He actually didn't want to...
"If you don't want to... you could come over to my place and then we can..." Takaki smirked and Yamada smacked him.
"You pervert!" What was Takaki thinking? He already wanted to... when they weren't even together...
"I think you're the pervert. What were you thinking?" Takaki pursed his lips. "I didn't even finish my sentences. I was going to suggest that we could just play some games or watch a movie."
"Oh... umm... yeah..." Yamada mentally hit himself for thinking... that.
"You're seriously cute," Takaki complimented, smiling. "Chushy and squishy..."
"Don't call me tha-!" Yamada was cut off when Takaki placed his lips over his softly. It happened so fast that Yamada didn't even register what had happened. Takaki pulled away and kissed his forehead before hugging him.
"W-wait... I thought you said... you should kiss someone you like and..." Yamada trailed off, feeling all confused.
"I did," Takaki said, pressing his forehead against Yamada's. "Why else would I kiss you?"
Yamada felt his face grow hotter by the moment and pushed Takaki away, covering his own face. "I dunno you jerk!" Yamada exclaimed without meaning it. He didn't know what to think anymore.
"You know, you can call me by my name. Being called a jerk all the time really hurts me," Takaki frowned.
Yamada's eyes widen. "Ah... I-I'm... sorry... Takaki-kun..." He said Takaki's name in such a soft voice but thankfully Takaki heard it.
Takaki smiled and his hands reached over to pinch his cheeks softly. "That's better... chushy and squibby." And before Yamada could even call him a jerk again, Takaki shut him up with a kiss.
Yamada gave up trying to deny that he didn't have feelings for Takaki, even if he was a jerk and closed his eyes, kissing back.
OMAKE:
Ryutaro was sitting on Yamada's bed, watching his friend read a book. He was so bored and Yamada was boring at times like this. He was informed that Takaki had gotten together with Yamada but it didn't seem like there wasn't any change in his friend. It had been three months since that day.
He looked around and saw a piece of paper sticking out from one of Yamada's mangas. Curiously, he pulled it out and looked at it. Yamada's report card was in his hands and his eyes widen as he saw the grades. "YAMA-CHAN!"
Yamada's head popped up from his book as he turned toward Ryutaro. "What?"
"What happened?" Ryutaro asked, shocked to see the many B's on there.
Yamada smiled. "Takaki-kun... I found out that grades aren't everything... and really... school is boring as hell. And I can get decent grades by doing everything last minute anyway."
Ryutaro blinked." Who are you and what have you done with Yama-chan?" He leaned over and caught a glimpse of something inside the book Yamada was reading. "Yama-chan... are you reading a magazine inside your book?"
"I gotta keep my image, you know," Yamada said, laughing. "Ah, I have to get ready for my date with Takaki-kun. Now get out."
Ryutaro blinked once more but this time with the door slamming against his face. He quickly called someone and then said with a frown, “Yamada’s personality did a 180 on me. Now I can’t tease him anymore.”
“And...?”
“Do you know what I need?”
“You already have me, Ryu-chan.”
“I know that. I need... someone to pick on. And that someone is going to be you.”
“...”
“I love you, too, you chushy and squibby penguin.”
