Conservative and Orthodox rabbis in LA and San Diego used to actually wear traditional Chinese garb (pillbox hats, etc.)! Many Jews in Southern California looked at the outfits Chinese immigrants wore, decided they were both attractive and appropriately modest, and adapted them for their own uses. Up until the 1960s or so, you could still find rabbis dressing like Chinese immigrants. Sadly that is no longer the case ( ... )
