Classy Literature

I hate the terrible covers that sci-fi/fantasy books usually have. I mostly (moooostly) stick to the acclaimed classics of genre fiction, the books that even non-fans acknowledge as being pretty good, but you wouldn't know it from the embarrassing artwork that publishers slap on the covers ( Read more... )

I think you've hit on something really huge here. Picture this: Next year's Otakon tables with manga and yaoi book covers. Be a looser IN PUBLIC WITHOUT (as much) SHAME! we should really think about this....

p.s. very little is stopping me from making this photo my wallpaper.

!!! That is an excellent idea! Cover your shame, Otaku! I think it's actually pretty common (?) in Japan to use cute book covers in public. MMM, wheels turning.

Well, I can tell what scene in the book it's based on, though Cordelia walking away is... really weirdly out of character.

You can't really tell from the size of the linked image, but it's also really awkwardly painted, like he just smeared some photoshop smudge tool over photographs, and then pasted them on top of a collage of more photoshop filtered pictures. It's truly, truly awful. Every time I looked at it I got kind of second-hand shame, so I had to cover it up.

On the plus side I'm almost done with it and totally in love with the actual, important CONTENT of the book!

Yeah, I got a "pasted together from 3D renderings and stuff"-vibe from it, it's just that it bothers me more when the cover has nothing to do with the book whatsoever than when it's just badly drawn/painted. ;)

Hey, it's cool. At least you didn't accidentally imply that you wanted to watch your friends give each other BJs, like I did over twitter today. OOPS.
