O.o Not only that but: "After a 15-mile chase"? They watched this guy crawl along for more than half an hour, and _then_ decided to shoot him? Gods... That's so dumb.

The bulldozer was moving at less than 30mph, a cop car can go over 100mph, they easily could have moved out of the way or something smart like that. Sure the kid did a dumb thing, but he was a little kid, he didn't deserve to be shot for it, kids are dumb all the time. There has to be some other way of stopping it instead of just shooting him...

Deadly Force nextghost June 25 2005, 02:19:12 UTC
The "rules" regarding the use of deadly force in law enforcement are in a nutshell; if you feel that your life or another person's life is in danger, you are authorized the use of deadly force.

The officers involved in the shooting felt that their fellow officers lives were in danger. There will be an IA investigation on the shooting. 30 MPH is pretty damn quick for a piece of heavy equipment. If that was coming my way and on a collision path with my fellows, I'd shoot the bastard also. When it boils down to "other person or me and mine" I'm going to side on "me and mine" every damn time. That may make me a not so nice person, but I learned my lessons in a little harder school than most.
