Bean & barley Italian wedding stew

This turned out an entire crock pot brimming full of stew so thick and stick-to-your-ribs-itive that one bowl was an entire meal, which is pretty rare in the soup realm. My estimate is that it's going to make about 8-10 meals out of one crockpot full, since 5 of us ate about half tonight and plan on eating the other half with some grilled cheese

it totally is. (On the days when we aren't on the high side of the 50 degree temperature swings, that is. Srsly, two days back to back this week: high of 30something vs high of 80something. Weather dude needs to make up mind already; I want to take my jasmine plant outside and plant some peonies!)

For the record, it was about a gallon of soup stock (the contents of a gallon Ziploc bag, anyway) and a bit less than a pound of meatballs. It could have stood to have more, but the liquid from the broth hadn't been fully soaked up by the beans and barley when I added it and the crock pot looked pretty full.
