Only if you are serious...

For education, I highly suggest you read ANYTHING written by Johnathan Kozol. He is like teh God of modern education. I suggest you read his book, "Amazing Grace". Not only is it a great read but it is likely going to be a requirement sometime during your first year of the education program.

I also suggest you read Annette Lareu's "Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race and Family Life". That book is also quite good, a quick read and very thought provoking. This book is also likely to be a requirement in your education courses.

I loved Unequal Childhoods, I thought it was quite amazing. I never realized before how much of a difference there is in rich vs. poor. The scary thing was though how defensive my classmates were, well they were all middle class white girls too. lol

I've heard of Kozol before so I think he will definitely go on the list.

Also I do appreciate any other recommendations you might have. ^^

Some good education history books:

Tyack David B., "The one best system: A history of American Urban Education". A very good book and actually quite easy to read without a ton of dullness.

Cuban, Larry. "How Teachers Taught: Constancy and Change in American Classrooms 1880-1990". A good book but a little more difficult to maintain focus on since its main goal is to be a history book...organization this in year that who Joe Someone and Mary Fancypants...Later in year something or another Fancypants started the ABC123 organization which helped to formalize the field through the foundation of such and such schools for education.

Regardless...both books or just the first will end up in the curriculum of your education courses.

Bernstein bears were also another of my favorites.

You could always check out the lyrics to albums by Tupac Shakur. Honestly, he wrote some pretty deep lyrics.
