So...*cough* How much does a refurbished PS2 cost these days? Preferably the non disc read error-prone model? Is there any realistic chance of being able to find one for under 100
( Read more... )
Nope. Not under 100, I'm afraid. =/ Most refurbished units are 110+ from what I've seen.
However, you can mail in your PS2 to Sony, and have it serviced for 65-70 dollars. (Maybe 80, but not over 90.) If you want to spend less than 100 dollars, your best bet is to send it in.
You could try cleaning the lens directly with alcohol. That's helped mine in the past. I also had a friend who greased these two bars in the drive for me, but that's a lot more complicated, and you can't use anything that's drippy. There might be somewhere online that has better instructions. Try asking through gamefaqs?
You know, I have an absolutely butchered PS2 lying around here that works (I think, I'll plug it in to check it out). It's not pretty to look at and I doubt it has a long life to look forward to, but I'd be more than happy to give it to you if you needed it.
No, you really have no idea how beat up this thing is, and how much I wouldn't care about it leaving my possession. I have boxes and whatnot, so the only thing to take care of would be shipping and handling, which would come out to what-- a buck or two? Not very heavy.
I'm happy to give stuff away, and I'll be sending Celes my PS2 Tales imports soon, so if you want it, go for it. Though, I would understand if there were some problems with taking it. Celes is sort of mad that I'm giving those away as she has problems with being indebted to people. Others would, understandably, not like to give out their address. I know I've never done so.
So anyway, yeah. I'm certainly not going to press, but don't be worried about my convenience.

Why are they so much? They're 6 years old! It's not like they're getting any newer. ;_;
Sending it in to Sony...isn't really an option. ^^; I've opened my PS2 up to get the dust out, so I've voided my warranty.

Something you can fall back on, at least.

Also, that response is a little vague, so let me clarify that I would be paying the shipping and handling.
