Screencapping Ps2 games...?

Mar 27, 2006 19:35

Potentially Stupid Question: Is there any way to screencap stuff from a ps2 game? I'd really like to get pictures from a few RPGs onto my computer, but alas, I can't figure out any way to do so, and googling isn't quite giving me anything I understand.

Oh, yes, and I keep forgetting to mention - I've written a few of the character entries on Read more... )

To the best of my knowledge, what you would need to do is find a PS2 emulator, put the disc in your puter, fire it up, play the game on your puter, and then wait until the spot you want and hit PrntScrn. Or whatever other button the emulator might use for screencaps, but generally in Windows it's PrntScrn. It's too much of a pain in the ass for me to bother with, but it should work.

Dunno if they're still around, but check out zophar.net, they might have an emulator.

Ah, I didn't think ps2 emulators existed.

So far I am behind...

I wouldn't doubt that there are 360 emulators. Crappy ones, but I'm sure they exist :D

Hmm, checking out that site, it seems like the PSX2 looks promising.

Looking through their database, not a lot of games work, though. :/ And Suikoden V, one of the ones I wanted to do (SO MANY EXPRESSIONS! SO MUCH CHARACTER ART NO ONE EVER DOCUMENTS!) evidently only goes so far as the intro...which has been capped quite a bit. Damn.

We seem to be on a lot at the same time lately, btw. :D

Hmm, ryuudo might know. I read she can screencap games now, you could probably ask her to do it, and she's playing SV now too, I think. ^_____^

You don't need to come find me, I'm here, I'm here~

I went out an purchased a tv tuner card. The one I have, specifically, is an ATI Wonder Pro, but you can get cards or USB devices, as long as they accept live input (this is the important part). So, my card accepts a cable signal, component input and s-video, so once I installed the card, I just used the cables that came with the PS2 to plug it in.

Once you have the device, it's pretty simple from there. The software that came with my card lets me take video and capture pictures. Although, there's a lag, so for games that need me to be accurate with timings (like SH3) I use a free program called Dscaler, which is good and screencapping, but kinda lame at video, since I know nothing about encoding stuff.

If there's anything else, let me know, I'll try to help out. :D

Want to add, for clarification! There isn't always a lag with the programs, I think it's just the multimedia suite that came with my card.

There was a a program I used in order to rip PS2 movies from the disks. But I don't remember the name of it now. It's on the other computer. I guess if you wanted to rip something from one of the movies it might help a bit, since you could rip it and then screencap from there. As for other parts of the game, I really can't say how you'd do it.

I really can't remember the name of it - sorry.

Ah, I had a program like that for the ps1, but it doesn't work with the ps2. More's the pity.

Thanks for letting me know programs like that exist. ^_^ I'll have to search around.

There's various options. CubeMediaPlayer (I believe it costs money, but I'm sure you can find a serial number -- I did), PSS Plex, and PSS Player, etc. All can be gotten from here, sans the first program.

Of course, all they'll let you do is view the FMVs.
