4 things I loved, hated, and was confused by in X-men 3: The Last Stand.

First, the spoiler-free review: Xmen 3: The Last Stand is a movie I'm pretty split on. Part of me liked it; part of me didn't, and part of me was pretty boggled by it. I'm not comparing it to the comics, as I think the movies are in an entirely different universe, and thus the comparison isn't really apt. (Besides, I don't have a strong-enough ( Read more... )

Point by point discussion!

Phoenix: I agree with you here. The cosmic entity wouldn't've fit in the movie. Especially since you would've needed Death to come around to explain part of it - or some other explanation - so that you'd know it was more than just some cosmic entity that chose Jean. The Phoenix didn't choose Jean. Jean chose the Phoenix. She reached out to a force of nature and personified it. That's bloody incredible... but far too complicated for the movie. The way they did it worked. I just need to explain to my friends what the real Phoenix is, because I think they'd like that version too ( ... )

Don't ask why I'm using the icons I'm using. I don't know. I'm just being silly.

Anyway, onto the Bad issues.

Phoenix, revisited: I hated how all the movies were a Magnetofest. I thought, going into this, that I'd get a good Dark Phoenix Saga. And I did, sorta. I got a good Magneto and Dark Phoenix Saga. Sure, her name's in the title, but she's second billed. And that pissed me off. She could've done so much more. What she did do - even killing Charles off - I loved, but she could've done so much more. I kept waiting for Magneto to say "And now my lovely assistant will...." Seriously, why did the Brotherhood attack at all? Why not just unleash Phoenix on them ( ... )

Last response before I get to thoughts of my own [though my belly is saying I should break my fast before getting to that part, so I'll make this quick].

Extras: It was disappointing only in two things: one, that the name "Morlocks" never was mentioned, and it looked like they were the Morlocks, especially with Calisto amongst them; and two, that we never saw him recruit elsewhere. If he'd gotten his pawns from more than one source, it'd've done what you were hoping for: show the Brotherhood as being from all walks of mutant life.

Holey Wolverine: Agreed. I'm kind of sick of Wolvering.

Dear Wolverine: Hehe, more Wolverine. It's funny, I was looking back at old comics, and I found a survey from Marvel. Amongst other things, they wanted to know if people would pay for comics if they came out twice a month instead of just monthly. Then they wanted to know if people would pay for two Wolverine comics a month. Jesus bloody hell, people, you're fucking obsessed! Enough with the Wolverine already ( ... )

So okay. I forget where, but I think somewhere on here, someone mentioned the stupidity of Wolverine attacking Magneto. What I kinda wish we got was a replay of X-men #25. Short short version, the X-men were attacking Magneto, and Wolverine was in one of his rages. So when he launched himself at Magneto with intent to kill, Magneto finally decided enough was enough. And proceeded to tear the adamantium right out of Logan's body. Should've killed him, except that Jean turned off the pain centers in Wolverine's brain until they could operate on him. That would have very nicely explained why they made the decision to turn Magnus human, and could have made the Wolverine movies very interesting indeed ( ... )

Had to leave out Scott in the last comment because of length. Scott, as I said, is not dead. He's a Summers, we didn't see him die, and we have no body. I'm sorry, he's not dead. But since he's such a fucking bit role in these movies, we can't expect to see him back. Not really. So it occured to me the best way to solve that problem: find him, have him be a wreck like he was in the beginning of X3, and then just have him retire and go away. Why bring him back at all, then ( ... )
