You could go the route I took and get a creative nomad. I believe they're mac-friendly. Mine's 40 gb with lithium-ion batteries that last about 14 hours of full volume play [on par or better with most ipods] They also make a newer version that is 80 gigs and has a video screen to play mpgs, avi, mov, and divx. Oh, and I payed $200 when all the ipods were $350 because it's not the mac name.
alas - I finally broke down and got an ipod. i went with a 20gb for $170. creative used to make mac compatible mp3 players but their newer ones aren't which is a bummer since that was originally what i was thinking of getting.
don't let it sit in the cold tho. not that you have to worry, since summer's approaching. but i left mine in my car overnight when it was about 40 degrees and the poor thing wouldn't turn on for like 3 days o_O I need an iPod sweater and electric blanket.
