Earthquake!

Apr 18, 2008 08:19

Holy crap. There was an earthquake at 5:37 AM this morning (of course just an hour before I actually get up in the morning - doh). My entire house shook and the dishes in the cupboards rattled for about 10 seconds. It was 5.4 on the Richter Scale!

Yanked from the Indy Star

yep, things are fine here in Lafayette, the county I live in isn't even on the map NW of Indianapolis. The worst thing I could say is that I lost an hour of sleep b/c it woke me up 1 hour early.

5.2 here. Nothing seems to be amiss.

Kudos for playing Nick Cave on the show last night--I didn't know he was still putting stuff out.

Yes, Nick Cave is unstoppable. He put out an album I think in '05 b/c Luke kept playing it in the lab all the time. He also mocked me for not being a huge Nick Cave fan and was disappointed I didn't share his obsession for Nick Cave. I think it is a bit of an age thing for me b/c I just didn't care for it when I was younger but I kinda get more of his stuff now. Apparently, Luke and Jake bonded at a Nick Cave show in Chicago not expecting to see the other guy there, so I got a lot of crap for not being into Nick Cave. His stuff from the Birthday Party is really weird too.

If you are interested in harder, gritter Nick Cave check out his side project Grinderman. It is pretty fucking awesome and came out last spring.

I've still got a bunch of his stuff, mostly from "Murder Ballads," on mp3. Some of it's really grown on me, some of it I skip out of reflex. There's also what the boys at Macchu Picchu deemed to be one of the worst covers ever--I believe it's the Bad Seeds doing "These Boots Are Made for Walking."

That is interesting reaction of others in regards to a dislike of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds covers; Jake joined the Chapple lab and asked everyone if they were okay with Nick Cave and everyone reacted like "Dear God! Noooo!". He was more stunned that everyone was familiar with Nick Cave (since music nerds aren't exactly abundant in the sciences). It turns out a previous postdoc was obsessed with the Murder Ballads album and played it a lot so everyone was automatically opposed to all things Nick Cave.
