See, this is what I don't understand. You [and many others, too] just pick up where you left off when it comes to Anniversaries and shit. But it doesn't work that way.
If you go out with someone, you measure time from the time you began dating. But! If you break up, you have to stop measuring time that you're together. It doesn't keep going because you are not together.
Ok. So, if you don't date anyone else while you're not together, then its ok to pick up the time where you left off but not count the time you were apart. If you did date other people, you have to start all over again. Those are the rules.
