I feel like I know you so well (in the online sense), but I'm curious about the reference to "Pastor i am gay" and your interest in worship. I'm curious what both those phrases mean to you.

"Pastor I am Gay" is a book by an American Baptist Minister about his own journey that was spurred by the first time someone in his pastorate came out to him. He is a straight minister asserting that the church needs to minister to gay men and lesbians and is currently hurting them, basically, and the way his book is written is readable and helpful, although it is mostly directed at those who disagree or are conflicted (and there are a few things I don't agree with).

Worship. When I say that, I mostly mean singing. I know that isn't all worship is, but that pure way of connecting to God is how He drew me back to church and has been a powerful force in my life. I also think of creation when I think of worship--singing and creation. Outpouring of love and thanksgiving or love and sorrow or whatever.

actually, only one is an author ;)

Chris Rice-Christian musicians (singer/songwriter/pianist) for whom I have a lot of respect and whose music I love. Very mellow, intelligent, beautiful, amusing...

Juarez--Juarez, Mexico, across the border from El Paso. I've been there twice on mission trips. My only experience with third world type living, most vivid experience with abject poverty. In addition, a place where I have experienced a lot of spiritual growth.

Nilo Cruz--Playwright. I've seen two of his plays, Lorca in a Green Dress and Anna in the Tropics and I loved both. He's awesome, won a Pulitzer Prize, very contemporary.

Rilo Kiley--I think I've reccommended them to you--a band I really like. Mellow and intelligent lyrics. Indie/Folk.

duende: it's a Spanish word with a complex meaning that i learned about during the production of "Yerma." it is the spirit, the soul, the passion, the fire of something, specifically art and esp. flamenco. the something that makes it MORE ( ... )

Fountainhead--novel by Ayn Rand, proponent of the philosophy of objectivism, that i read and wrote an essay on for a scholarship last year. i was intrigued by her philosophy and LOVED the novel. it is about a brilliant architect, Howard Roarke, who the world resists but who refuses to compromise or back down. Rand is all about "self" and we don't agree, philosophically, for the most part, but i loved the thinking the novel made me do. it's massively long, though. (but soo good ( ... )
