Welcome to the TARDIS, Ncuti Gatwa! I'm sure you'll be amazing ♡
I have seen you in absolutely nothing :D as is tradition, but everyone is recommending Sex Education so I'll be bumping that up my list.
(On another, less relevant, note, was this announcement planned? It feels unplanned. We got that lovely little specially-filmed teaser for Jodie and full-on television specials for Peter and Matt, and Ncuti gets a press release and some social media posts and not even an announcement-of-an-announcement? Were they trying to get ahead of a leak? Maybe I'm being suspicious of nothing.)
And I do have to say it, much like my initial reaction with Matt was "I wanted Chiwetel Ejiofor or Paterson Joseph", my initial reaction here was "I wanted Lydia West or T'Nia Miller" :( It is absolutely nothing against Ncuti, who looks to be bang-on for the role and by all accounts is an amazing actor, I just wanted TPTB to look at all the people who've been screaming about Jodie being the wrong choice for the past few years entirely because she's a woman and go "actually you know what we're just gonna keep casting women for a while", and also I think it's time for a woman of color full-time in control of the TARDIS. I'll get over it by the time Jodie hands over the TARDIS key, just like I got over it with Matt (who has become one of my all-time favorites), but I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed we're back to casting men.
Anyway.
