New to Chicago

Nov 10, 2008 14:54

Hey I'm Alan and I have just moved here to Chicago. If any guys ever want to get together to hang out drop me a line I'd love to make some new friends. Also, if anyone knows of any ftm groups let me know I would like to check some out. Thanks!

What part? Chicago is strongly neighborhood-y. :-> Also, where are you coming from? If you're even marginally subway-native, I highly recommend getting comfortable with the CTA system; it's the cheapest and best way to get around ... in the parts of the city it serves well, anyhow.

The designated 'queer neighborhood,' full of friendly places, good bars, and social services, is called Boys Town or North Halsted, and stretches along Halsted Avenue from about Addison to Broadway. Home to, among other things, the Brown Elephant (best thrift store EVER, and proceeds go to subsidize queer-friendly healthcare), the Howard Brown Health Center (funded by BE), and the Center on Halsted, which has meeting rooms, movie screenings, and all sorts of other support for the community.

I maintain a public online calendar on Google with all the local trans-y events I know about (with a special attention to transmasculine-friendly ones, of course). Feel free to use it any way you like -- and those of you who've been in town longer, feel free to toss me ( ... )

I don't have EVERYTHING, most especially not support groups intended for the transfeminine. Not because I don't want to get girl cooties on my calendar; I just haven't had any real motivation to exhaustively search them out like I have the ones I attend. :->
