Hrm... I put naive in because it seemed to me that he never even questioned his father's actions or beliefs. He might have his misgivings, but it's ultimately what Daddy says goes. Also, the look on his face in the episode when he's talking about the coordinates made me think naive more than idealistic. His anger after that seems to be more directed at Sam's questioning, suggesting that he hasn't thought about it, or doesn't want to.
But, that's just my reading of it. I've changed the post, to say both naive and idealistic because it can work either way.
Hopefully soon we'll be starting up a series of meta discussion/debate posts to look at these sorts of things, and this seems like a good place to start. :)
