Love him or Loathe him: What's with the fan response to Daddy Winchester? We don't want to go crazy with rules, as we'd like this to be an open discussion. To that end, please just keep it respectful, and we won't have any trouble. Trolling, flaming, and other forms of abuse will not be tolerated, but otherwise, step on up. I read somewhere that there's going to be a lot more of John later in the season (and next season !!!) and that we'll get to know him better. So, here's hoping they throw us a fricken' bone as to his actions so far.

I'm impatient. CLOSURE, GIVE ME CLOSURE.

Hey, at least they're giving us some answers. It could be worse, Kripke could be all Lost about his plotlines. ;)

Glad to hear there's another season, too..

Uh, sorry. Didn't meant to imply that a second season was definite. They're hoping, n'all, but nothing's set in stone, yet.

I was just saying that Kripke's apparently got a lot of it worked out for the next series (and apparently 5 after that).

There is so little to go on with what they've given us but I do hope we learn more about Daddy Win and perhaps, his relationship with his boys.

I like him but at the same time, feel sympathy for the boys because I think that he's a man who's obsessed with finding his wife's killer to the point that it's detrimental to his relationship with the boys. I have no doubt that he loves them but isn't that good at showing it.

I find his passion and the mystery of exactly what they're facing intriguing. Of course, if they never really reveal anything by next season (if there is one), then I probably would be frustrated.

I love'im. He and the boys have this kind of Batman-Nightwing-Robin thing going on, where they respect and love him unconditionally, but are simultaneously (and to different degrees) frustrated and emotionally tangled up by him. Sam is better at acknowledging his problems with John and Dean pushes them down far enough that even *he* can almost forget they exist, but the problems are definitely there. In that way, I think they're close to being your average family, because with Dean being the older sibling he feels more required to fulfill his familial duties no matter what resentment he harbours, and Sam distances himself from the family emotionally and physically to get some relief.

As for John in and of himself, I can only imagine what it was like for an ex-Marine to find his perfect life disrupted by his wife combusting on the ceiling. How can a person possibly reconcile himself to that? It kind of makes sense (again, in the cracky "parents killed = DRESS LIKE A BAT & FIGHT CRIME" kind of way) that he'd devote the rest of his ( ... )

Hee! I was talking about it with the Wee Sister and we agreed that the Batclan has ruined us for looking critically at dysfunctional families 4-EVA. *g*

I'm kind of torn about Daddy Winchester. On one hand, I find it impossible to completely like him, because I over-associate with Sam's plight of feeling that nothing he ever does is good enough for John. But on the flip side, I know that he's trying to keep them as safe as he can in the wacky demon-laden world they live in, and that's a pretty honorable parental thing to do. I just want more info, you know? Even if it's just him talking to Sam and Dean over the phone.

I have nothing else to add because I pretty much agree with what you said here, Katie.

HE SO DID, YOU CHEESE EATING SURRENDER MONKEY. (oh, god, make me *stop*)

And can we as of now start two cults? The Deanicans and Samists will war with each other for ages, it'll keep 'em popular. Nothing helps recruiting like blood and sex.

Seriously, post-Shadow, it's really hard for people to look at Daddy Winchester and say that he's the same awful guy that we've been arguing about. The fact that he is *human* makes him so much more interesting. He loves his boys, but he's also incredibly flawed (um, Dean's *dying*, hello?) and the fact that his one real weakness is his sons doesn't really leave much room for the whole, "he used them like tools" argument any more.

do not start on me! There is NO WAY that Dean let Sam go off to college a virgin (one way to look at it) OR Sam is HOT OK? He had girls crawling all over his dick. SMART AND HOT! Bitch, please.

Yeah, they retconned daddy and we all fell like a girl at Dean's feet. How could we not?

Seriously. Retconned like Joss, yo.

And! Sam is shy! He'd only go after shy girls! He'd be scared of the agressive ones!

Although, omg.

"Sam, there comes a time, in every boy's life, when he has to become a man."

"Dean. I *already* shot and killed something."

"Uh, no, Sam, a different sort of man-making, uh, thing."

"...?"

"Oh, for Christ's sake. Kari Lawrence is hot for you, and she thinks you're taking her out to lookout point tonight."

"...this *is* the most embarassing thing that'll ever happen to us, right? RIGHT?"
