Fads and Common Sense

I don't understand the hype about guys piercing their ears. My brother wants his ears pierced just because all of his ghetto friends are getting theirs pierced. He's asked my mom a million times and she keeps saying NO and even my (most of the time) charismatic father says NO. And Ryan throws a tanrum about it. Everytime. Over a stupid, stupid FAD

haha I remember when my brother got his ears pierced and now they are stretched out like the African tribes do, but he thinks he looks 'cool' so he likes it. It discusts me.
and grills are rediculious, hideous and a waste of money, I don't understand them and when I first heard about them I thought they were a joke, which they are.
I don't understand fads these days.

fads. pop culture. brainwash. yuck. your brother's caught the mass media virus. maybe a swift kick to the nuts will cure it?

no seriously. that smells, but it's most likely a phase he'll grow out of. I'm practically allergic to fads but I enjoy buying useless clothes/accessories just to express myself. and on the subject of whether or not how you look matters: I hate to say this, but appearance.. or presentation.. is pretty important, self-expression wise.

it's hard to express yourself or get people interested in you through personality or your actions unless you want to be the next Ganji. the easiest way to express yourself is appearance, and through that people can just look at you and say "hey, maybe they're into the kind of stuff I am, maybe we can relate" ..which often times isn't the case, but it's easier than everyone just wearing jeans and a tee and trying to get to know each other. we need style. not fads, goodness no.. but we do need style. somewhat.
