I believe that help a kid can get from teachers
definitely include suspension. You did the right thing.
Getting away with their own deeds only make them do more,
and children need to learn from experience that
certain behaviors aren't accepted, before they go out in the world where they get more serious consequences than suspension.

You're right, and the drug arrest will hopefully teach him something. He is lucky he isn't 18 yet. Then he would be looking at jail time.
