My father got us one of those sponsor kids from Christian's Children's Fund and it made me realize the world was larger than us at an early age. It was a kid from India, and my father had just gone to India. I am really grateful for that.

To begin with, you are welcome.
Secondly, it is the hugest misconception that people like me do not believe there should be taxes. To believe otherwise is just plain folly.
The problem is that 40-50% of what we earn now goes to taxes in some way shape or form. Take a look at your bills. Gas tax. Sin Tax. Property tax. Capital Gains tax. Death tax. Income tax. Social Sec. Medicare. The list is unending.
That is just plain wasteful and insane.
I would compare my charitable donations yearly to anyone, but I get to choose whether I want to do that or not.
"It is not what they take away from you that counts. It's what you do with what you have left."
If this is how you want to live then let me know how you feel when they take your home to build a Wal-Mart. Let me know how you feel when they take 90% of your paycheck to give tax breaks to big oil.
Hubert Humphrey said that because he was instilling a "temporary" 3.5% sales tax on all goods sold in MN. It was temporary, it is now almost 8%.

I don't mind paying taxes. I take issue with how my federal tax dollars are allocated. I feel that as a country, we spend far too much on the war machine and not enough toward social good.
