That is ironic you have to do Adam Smith. I have to read something by him called The Division of Labor. Here's what my book says about him:
Adam Smith was neither a businessman nor a high-ranking government official nor, strictly speaking, an economist. He was a professor of moral philosophy. That discipline included economics, political science, ethics, and sociology, all of which are discussed in The Wealth of Nations.
