I remember those lectures from Bastila. As soon as she'd get started up I'd be sighing and rolling my eyes.

Heh, it's hard not to feel that way about Bastila. I'm not entirely sure why the writers thought they should stick the player with a character who does almost nothing but second-guess your actions and condescend to you up until the ~twist~. Those typically aren't endearing traits.

Though personally I had a harder time with Carth, who would constantly want to talk to you but end almost every conversation with, "I'm not saying I'm paranoid, but I've got my eye on you."

I think I know why Bastila does so much lecturing. It's sort of like the proverbial reformed smoker - you know, nobody lectures smokers like one who quit?

Well, I think (given the fact that she eventually DOES fall to the Dark Side) that the reason Bastila lectures so much is because she can feel the conflict within herself. She wants to stay pure, to follow the path of the Jedi, but she thinks it's not easy for anyone else because it's not easy for her.

Oh, and Carth Onasi (IMHO) was probably in a Black Ops unit during the war. He's not dropping his guard because he knows NOBODY really has clean hands after that mess.

I agree, I think that was probably the writers' intention with her lectures. I just wonder if this tactic was very effective. Because the game uses a very clear binary, most Light Side PCs just feel needlessly condescended to, and most Dark Side PCs won't be swayed by her speeches.

My friends all dropped Bastila for Jolee Bindo or Juhani, who are a bit softer in their approaches than Bastila, as the former doesn't believe in a strict Good Vs Evil and the latter is working through her personal baggage.

IDK, I'm rambling now, haha. I always took Bastila around with me because I like having morality and philosophy discussions in video games, but that is ultimately the reason why I like KotOR 2 better anyway. :P

I love KOTOR, KOTOR2, DA:O, DA2 & Jedi Academy. I think that Jedi Academy is a perfect example of your thoughts about how BioWare toned down the moralizing in later games. In Jedi Academy you're actually told that it isn't the power that is good or bad, but how you choose to use it. That's why all the powers of the Emperor & Darth Vader are available to students as they advance in skill.

However, I have to admit to being rather - stuck in a rut. Besides the 5 games listed above, the only other 2 games I play regularly are The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, and TES 4: Oblivion. Since I'm disabled and do almost nothing else most days, I've played them all so much I almost never look at the God-books anymore. I'm getting VERY bored. Can you name any other high-quality games that are similar to the ones we've named, but keep the controls simple like MORROWIND?

Sure! I love giving video game recommendations! :D

Um, first, what consoles do you have access to, and are you comfortable playing games on the PC? Second, are there any genres that you just completely aren't interested in, such as shooters or puzzle games?

I haven't found very many FPS games that I even cared enough about to finish. I like there to be more reason to play than just "I get to blow s**t up!"

I don't mind puzzles, but don't want to do a game that is nothing but. An occasional puzzle, like in the TES or DA games, doesn't bother me. One of my main complaints about the "Reclaiming Sancre Tor" mod for Oblivion is that most of the quest is puzzles. That lays it on a bit thick, IMHO. I'm like you in liking a good RPG that has some philosophy, morality, and a good story. One thing I don't like is getting invested in my character and then part way through the story being forced to carry on (even for just a little while) with a companion because the player-character has been knocked out of the game for a while. BOO-HISS! If I wanted to play a Star Wars game as a droid, I would have created my character as a droid!

I play on PC & PS3. My PC can barely handle playing Oblivion - Skyrim is not an option. The CPU & graphics card are both too old for Skyrim.

Yaaay, there's another one out there. :)

Hm, okay, bear with me for a moment while I gather up my thoughts.

Oh, and what about Steam? Is that okay for your computer?
