i've seen a couple different versions of this music survey,
1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
Bright Eyes beats everyone else if bootlegs count, otherwise they might get beat by the Magnetic Fields or even The Beatles due to sheer volume of their discographies.
2. What was the last song you listened to?
A Favor - Okkervil River. Which is one of my favorites. Generally I think the OR EPs and singles are weaker than their albums -- which is to say, they are good but not great -- but this song really hurts my heart the right way.
3. What's in your record player right now?
Turntable @ home: Joni Mitchell's Blue
Playlist @ work: All my Okkervil on shuffle
4. What song would you say sums you up?
Um. I can't pick one. How about five?
Two Headed Boy Part 2 - Neutral Milk Hotel
The Biggest Lie - Elliott Smith
Eau D' Bedroom Dancing - Le Tigre
Canyon Girl - The Fruit Bats
So Begins Our Alabee - Of Montreal
5. What's your favorite local band?
I have lots but I think the answer is probably Okkervil River. With sincere apologies to Grand Champeen, Shearwater, Spoon, The Octopus Project, The Fall Collection, and Her Space Holiday.
6. What was the last show you attended?
It makes me sad to say, but I got really burned out and I don't think I've been to a show post ACL-fest... I might be wrong, but I think that's accurate. Tears!
7. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
I can't pick one of these either, but I want to say either the first time I saw Okkervil River inside at Flips, or the Arcade Fire at Stubbs just a few weeks ago. Plus every show I saw on the Bright Eyes Lifted tour.
8. What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?:
A bunch of little tiny bands that aren't worth mentioning have been terrible, but the biggest disappointments have been the so-called Misfits and seeing The Cure just go through the motions.
9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?
I am not at liberty to say. Cough.
10. What is the most musically involved you have ever been?
I don't really understand this question. I made a song once. I play guitar but not well. I've been pretty obsessive about being a fan for the last 8 - 10 years.
11. What show are you looking forward to?
Finally seeing Ghostland Observatory at Emo's next month, Metric at The Parish, My Morning Jacket at La Zona Rosa...
12. What is your favorite band t-shirt?
My old school Bright Eyes t-shirt that Brian Churchman gave me because he's a peach.
13. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Any of the Tilly And The Wall kids. I guess it's lame to pick people you already know when I could say Mick Jagger or whatever, but I'd rather hang out with people I love who I know I would have fun with.
14. What musician would you like to be in love with you for a day?
I would say David Berman, but I would cry when the day was over. Thinking fluffy, Sondre Lerche.
15. Metal question-Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?
"Um, jeans and leather, I guess." <-- Mikaela's answer, also mine.
16. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
Neither. I'm sorry, hardcore.
17. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?
The Commodores!
18. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?
Metal is the one thing I really don't listen to much of. I used to listen to a lot of punk rock, but hip hop is the only one of these things I really listen to regularly. I mean, haven't you heard that mainstream hip hop is the new indie rock?
19. Doesn't Primus suck?
Yeah, man, yeah.
20. Name 5 flawless albums
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
Cat Power - Moon Pix
The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
more because it's important:
Elliott Smith - Figure 8
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Bright Eyes - Lifted...
Mazzy Star - Among My Swan
21. What was the greatest decade for music?
I can't really answer this question. Obviously sometimes I wish I born 30 years earlier, but I'm also really happy to be able to walk down the street and watch Okkervil River.
22. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
Um, two.
23. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
I'm really nuts about the soundtrack to Elizabethtown right now, but Cameron Crowe always does a good job.
24. What was your last musical "phase" before you wisened up?
I listened to a lot of Jewel and Counting Crows and Barenaked Ladies and Cake and stuff like that... It seems like a lot longer ago than it actually was.
25. What's the crappiest CD/record/etc. you've ever bought?
I bought the Primitive Radio Gods album just so I would have a copy of "Standing In A Phonebooth..." -- that was pretty bad. I would say something obvious and embarassing like Hanson or The Spice Girls, but I actually like those CDs. Oops.
26. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
I enjoy the experience of listening to vinyl more, but I keep most of my music ripped onto my external harddrive for convenience's sake.
