i don't know much about this, but i asked my dad (listens to every type of music on earth), and he recommended django reinhardt, stephane grappelli, and quintette du hot club de france, bireli lagrene, and claude williams. he said there's also a subset of music from that period called gypsy jazz that was being played a lot in berlin and rome back then.

maybe yes?

Hrm. I don't know much French jazz pop from the era, but I think the Triplets sound is pretty well matched in the Boswell sisters. Really, anything you can find by the Boswell sisters (or just Connee Boswell solo) is well worth the purchasing cash. If you can find it, listen to their rendition of "Sentimental Gentleman from Georgia" -- it's FREAKIN' AWESOME.
