Man, this album blows my mind every time I listen to it. I wish I could explain how revolutionary it seems to me considering that it's mostly about love. Most older great albums have been ripped off and emulated dozens of times since their release, but I don't think anyone would ever dream of trying to emulate Van Morrison. You can't really do it. Moondance is almost as good as Astral Weeks. You'd dig it if you like Astral Weeks.

Astral Weeks is a little more spiritual. It's as if Astral Weeks is his Smile and Moondance was his Pet Sounds. :)

i love moondance too. i think that was the first van i heard. i've just been on an astral weeks kick lately.

the brian wilson analogy works pretty well!

Knowing your good taste in music, I actual figured you'd already heard it.

I was going to mention what great taste in music (among other things) that you have, but I've already pointed that out probably about 10 times already! :)

thanks dude. i think i spend way too much of my energy being a fan, i think, but i guess okay taste (or the chance to hear the right things) is one of the pluses.

Read Lester Bangs's stranded-on-a-desert-island essay about Astral Weeks. That's what got me into the album, and after you read it, you can love the album without having ever heard it.
