I like the design and that you're going with an older heroine (aside from the age, I get a sort of Vash the Stampede crossed with Rosetta from Chrono Crusade sort of thing going on + bowler, which is awesome). Her age is an interesting touch, but it begs some questions.
Is she actually 40? Is she actually human? Humans break down when injuries add up (and if she's such a bad ass, she is going to have been injured in the past). Because of such, she almost seems too, well, too handsome. With the description you have of the world it seems like a very dangerous, harsh environment (no visible scars; she appears to have black lipstick, etc.) If she's actually supernatural in origin, then it's not a big deal. If she is supernatural in origin, then, well, it's a bit cliche to have have the mysterious stranger who turns out to be supernatural, or part demon or ( ... )

As for religion, I didn't want to make up one because I felt it wouldn't strike with the viewer. A made up religion would be too unfamiliar for someone to really get if the story revolves around killing demons with relics. Since it's a distant world, I'll say that the humans who live there once did live on Earth and brought the religion with them. I am trying to do alot of research into different religions so that I don't use anything improperly. So yes, Indigo would use the proper relic on a Rakshasa, not a crucifix. For believing in ONE specific religion, that's going to be the touchy subject of this comic. The main theme I'm going with is that all religions and none are right at the same time. Without spoilers, I'll say that Indigo is kinda like Hellboy. She knows what to use to combat all these different demons, but she also knows enough about higher relms to know what to believe it.
I hope all that makes sense. Let me know if you see any gaping plot holes. I have tried to think all this through pretty thoroughly.
