Seriously, I've given this show a fair chance. I really have. But I can't understand what the appeal of Haruhi Suzumiya is. I know a lot of my friends really enjoy it, but to me it's nothing more than "Selfish bitch, the anime". I know she's god, or whatever, and if she gets bored the universe stops functioning so she HAS to be selfish. But to that

You're not the only one. I only watched the first disc, but I did not like it at all and regret buying it. I don't know why it's so popular. Well I can think of two reasons and I think you mentioned them...tits and moe.

Personal reasons

When I saw it, Haruhi had the highest production value of any anime I'd seen in quite a while, and in that need it satisfied a need for audiovisual stimulation. I don't know if my like of the show went beyond that: I haven't watched Haruhi season 2 or the recently released movie, which is due to a lack of interest. Can't say if that's due to a lack of interest in the show or higher-ranked interests elsewhere.

I think there's more to Haruhi than "selfish bitch", although the first season of the anime doesn't really do a very good job of bringing it out. The light novels seem to do a better job. (Well, the translations I read helped me out.)

At one point I was going to do an AMV to explore what I saw in her, but haven't really done that due to reasons cited above. I can, however, link the lyrics to the song I was planning to use.

I don't know of any lyrics sites that I can link to without first going to red alert and kicking in FlashBlock and NoScript, so I'll just say to look up Belle & Sebastian's "Beautiful".

I've still not seen this series, but after your description of it, I'm not really sure I want to. It sounds rather "meh" to me. Soooo, I do thank you for that. :)

So that’s why I believe it holds appeal. I’ve only watched the first season, haven’t seen the movie, and might change my thoughts on it at some point.
