Shake Hands With The Devil

Political conspiracy, international espionage, civil war, hundreds of thousands of lives on the line, and those in power lying through their teeth. I have still yet to read that book... but heard soo many good things about it! The Rwandan genocide is such chilling account of the loss of humanity. Were you there the night we watched Hotel Rwanda in Andy and Loni's room in Montrèal?

man, that sounds like another book added to my ever-growing books to read list.... i've just started "human cargo", a book about the state of refugees and it tells a bit about the history of the UN.... it started out as such a noble idea, but reality it, when politicians are involved, it's never as altruistic as we hope... you must have heard about the '100 days of hope' campaign in rwanda right now?? visit www.hoperwanda.org

well, i hope you're doing well! i'll be leading a small team to the thai/burma border at the end of june! another tragic story in burma.... pray for us!!

love
jan :)

Hey Alison (it's j-dawg),
If this happened again, would you wear a beret?

it's already happening again in Central Africa... and... that's a really good question. I think the problem is I have no other hat to wear - but after reading the book, I want to find out more about what the UN is doing right now in DR Congo and what they need to get it done right and then for millions of people to put pressure on their own countries to get'er'done... the current state of the beret is in shambles - but what else is there to wear?

I wrote a report this year on humanitarian intervention. You can download this really interesting report called 'The Responsibility to Protect' by the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty here.
