1. If anybody's reading "An Embarrassing Savior," I uploaded Chapter 5 today. I had intended to refrain from posting updates to this story until it was complete, but I had Chapter 5 ready on Star Trek Day and just couldn't manage to sit on my hands. :-)

2. CBS is having events ( Read more... )

Thank you. I was really moved by George Takei's story and the spirit of social justice that is still so vivid among the crew and so much a cornerstone of the Star Trek legacy.

I didn't get to hear Mr. Takei because I was cooking dinner for my husband at the time; I'll look forward to listening to him tomorrow. I don't know if you know this or not -- he probably mentioned it in his interview -- but George Takei wrote a play about the American internment camps for Japanese Americans during World War II. It's a shameful story, and I would have said nothing like that could ever happen here again ... until my fellow Americans foolishly elected Trump. So we still need that reminder!

I'm impressed that a man in his 80's is still up to campaigning for social justice; it's nice to know that at least some elderly folks manage to continue to make a difference.

Yeah, CotEoF isn't my favorite, either. Anything where Ellison is involved (though his original screenplay was a hot mess,) can't be all good. Love "The Devil in the Dark," along with "The Changling" and "The Doomsday Machine."

About "The City on the Edge of Forever," I didn't really believe that Kirk could fall in love with Edith Keeler, and if Kirk isn't in love with her, then gosh, it's an awful shame that they have to let such a nice woman die, but it's not the great tragedy that it would otherwise be.

It's not that I think Ms. Keeler isn't lovable; of course she is. She's kind and smart and progressive (and gorgeous), and that all seems great. What I didn't buy was Kirk -- I didn't think Kirk had the emotional ROOM to fall in love with anyone, no matter how wonderful.

While Kirk is stuck in the past, he's frantically trying to keep history from unraveling. The entire future rides on Kirk's and Spock's shoulders, and everyone they have ever loved and all that they have ever known will cease to exist unless they can right things. Furthermore, Kirk is stuck in the past with a Vulcan. If the wrong person sees Spock without his cap -- or if he cuts himself helping in the kitchen or even just barks his shin on something and bleeds green -- they'll take him ( ... )
