Yes! I'm unhappy that it was this close but thrilled that we'll finally get a president who isn't malevolent and insane.
I was born in Delaware and spent the first 23 years of my life there, and Joe Biden is a known quantity in Delaware. I never thought that Delaware would be in a position to furnish a president to the nation, what with our three -- count them, 3 -- electoral votes, but I'm thrilled to be proved wrong.
I find myself glued to the screen every time Biden speaks. I don’t even care what he is saying, it is just refreshing to see someone speak in a calm rational manner using real words. I know we have a lot of work ahead to fix the great division in this country, but this is a huge start.
Isn't it weird that we have to be relieved and grateful that the future president speaks in a calm, rational manner using real words? But it's so true -- I'm relieved and grateful, too!
One of the classes I was teaching in autumn of 2016 was a public speaking and rhetoric course. When I had my 18-year-old students analyze the GOP and Democratic convention speeches, they uniformly talked about how Drumpf pitched his vocabulary and sentence structure to second graders, and was that on accident or was that an ingenious strategy?
It didn’t take long for them to realize that it was just the level of Drumpf’s intelligence. When he won, one of my students said, “I feel like this is a loss for Clinton AND the English language.”
Seeing the response from world leaders, bells in Paris, fireworks in London and Edinburgh and Berlin.... (almost) the entire world is celebrating with us!
WHO!
Paris Accord!!!
NATO!!!!
I am so, so, so, so, so, SO RELIEVED. And listening to those two speeches tonight, I feel more hopeful for the future than I have in 4 and a half years.
I loved Kamala Harris' speech, all the more because I hadn't known much about her. The way Joe Biden exudes decency as effortlessly as Trump exudes petulance ... we need that SO much. I feel as if I haven't taken a deep breath for the last four years.
I feel the same way. And if I, a white, cisgender, college-educated straight woman feels that way, I can only begin to imagine how BIPOC folks and DACA folks and others feel.
I'm bisexual leaning towards lesbian, but I'm white, native-born and cis. I've felt hugely vulnerable with Trump in office, so as you say, I can't imagine how vulnerable immigrants and people of color must feel. I don't usually wish two months of my life away, but January 20th can't come fast enough!
