i've started learning a bit of finnish.  at this point i only know enough to get myself in very deep trouble (should i ever dare to try and use it).  anyway, here are my favorite false cognates so far.  may there be many more.

2) porkkana - carrot
3) appelsiini - ( Read more... )

I myself am a big fan of the Korres cedar shower gel. Makes me feel like I'm running amok in a Scandinavian forest. ;)

Never tried the bitter almond, but it sounds delicious!

About the "insta-verbs" thing, I remember my grandfather complaining once about the use of "access" as a verb. Access is something you get, not something you do.

Part of it is having been my growing up in the SF community and its ties to the hacker culture, but the concept of nouns becoming verbs is pleasing to me. To quote the Jargon File, "all nouns can be verbed."

That said, "favorited" bites the cosmic weenie. If nothing else, it is one more lexical favor to Microsoft that doesn't need to be given to them. In my opinion, the proper neologism would be "bookmarked". It's a favor to a less odious company and makes more sense from a metaphorical point of view.
