Oh wow! :) I'm so glad you like it and that it helped you! :)
And here I was over here thinking I'm the one who does things the long way around... :P
I will admit that I've created some custom toolbars in order to do these steps faster, but I didn't want to take the time to explain how to do it, so I wrote the paths(?) out... You know, Effects>Enhace Photo>Automatic Contrast Enhancement. :)
Thanks so much!

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I am a complete newbie to Paint Shop and your tutorial helped me very much. So: Thanks a million! ;)
Thank-you so much for this awesome tutorial. Over the last few months I have admired and drooled over so many gorgeous icons and felt horribly afraid to try and make my own. Suddenly for some reason your tutorial seemed like a good place to start. This is what I made:
I made another one. It is so much fun!! I took the blue exclusion layer out completly because it made the image look dull and it took so much work to lighten it and get rid of the artifacts. The most fun is playing with the Smart Photo Fix which in PSPX has replaced the features you use in your tutorial.
I'm glad it was helpful for you! :) I really don't like a lot of things about this tutorial, but I feel that the stuff about the text is quite helpful still, and so I've left it up. :) You did an excelent job on your first icon! :) (And using Narnia, too! I find that a really difficult film to icon.)
