A Second Chance
Fandom: Bleach
Timing: AU
Pairing(s): Toushirou/Karin
Genre: Mystery/Romance
Rating: PG-13
Expected Length: 10 - 15 chapters
This is the low down:
- • Karin (10) is the tomboy like in the anime. She becomes friends with Hitsugaya (25) who teaches her to play football, eats ice cream with her. This Hitsugaya is OOC, because he’s a nice guy.
- • Hitsugaya dies while saving her from a car accident right before her eyes. Isshin brings her to his funeral, of which barely anyone attended because he was an orphan.
- • 14 years pass by, and Karin (24) is now a intern doctor at Karakura Hospital, currently in the Paediatrics rotation.
- • She has a patient by the name of Ururu (6) who is supposed to be in kindergarten but is suffering from leukaemia.
- • Karin one day meets Hitsugaya and Rangiku patrolling the area. She chases after him and whatnot, later confronts him and asks him if he remembers her, and he claims he doesn’t.
- • Ururu’s story is that her mother is dead, and made her a doll of which she treasured but was stolen by the class bully (Yachiru). Her father rarely visits her because he has another family now (she got sick post-divorce). So the mysterious dude (Gin) asks her if she’s willing to exchange a human life in order to gain her own life. She agrees, and the school bully is the exchange. The next day she miraculously recovered, considering she was on the bone marrow transplant list. The paediatrician, Unohana-sensei is amazed at this. Karin talks to Ururu, who tells her about the ‘silver-haired onii-chan’ who gave her life and doll back. Karin suspects Hitsugaya.
- • Meanwhile, the school bully is rushed to the hospital for an exacerbation of asthma, or possibly spiking fever with pneumonia. She dies before being saved, and was sent to autopsy. Parents cry, and the doll she brought with her was taken by Gin to give to Ururu.
- • Rukia (28), who is the coroner (think CSI’s Doc Robbins) confirms the autopsy report and it turns out that she died from a rare type of pneumonia. Rukia says it’s a bit strange how she suddenly died when she was previously so healthy. Karin remembers her name, of which Ururu speaks of. Her suspicions grow.
- • Basically the story revolves around the people Karin know (not directly), and how despite circumstances that would usually leave them dead, they live; and someone else who is innocent dies instead. Behind this is Aizen and his crew, and their aim is to create a ring of seven people (the Contractors) who know each other through an intermediate person (the Victims) to exchange deaths for life through the seven deadly sins, allowing some portal to the demon world/Hell to open in Karakura.
- • The role of Hitsugaya and his crew are that they’re Shinigamis (not the Bleach kind), and they’re more modern. If you watch the anime Yami no Matsuei, you’ll understand. Karin just somehow gets involved in all of this.
