Red, red rubies!

This is basically me squealing over the fact I got to see My Chemical Romance on Thursday (omg!) and how great it was. Pictures may be added later, if any of them turned out well.

My Chemical Romance supported by Mindless Self Indulgence, O2 Arena, Millenium Dome, 15/11/07

Mindless Self Indulgence: Back in the month when I was considering crazy plans to go see MCR play in Luxembourg or Dusseldorf (seriously-crazy, crazy plans), I’d downloaded some of their songs and they’re not really my type of music, but some of their stuff is fun and bouncy. Live, they were a lot better than I expected them to be. So much energy and excitement and they were really good to get more hyper whilst waiting for My Chem. They were pretty funny too:

-“This half of the arena is cute, like a fluffy puppy… but that half of the arena is creepy, like a sex offender”

-“Bark like a dog! (everyone barks) A bigger dog! (barks louder) A BIG dog! (barks louder) Yeah, that’s what your mom sounds like…”

Then they got everyone to sing the Spice Girls, with new improved lyrics, and at the end, There’s No Business Like Show Business played, and the guitarist mimed giving the singer a blow job... They were crazy, but really entertaining.

Also, their bassist Lyn-Z, who is married to Gerard Way, she is so smoking hot, I couldn’t stop staring at her. She looked like she was having so much fun and she would smile and talk to the people in the front row, and then she jumped into the crowd and was just so awesome. ♥

So, end the support. Lights back up and everyone standing around waiting, everyone singing along to Basket Case when it was played over the speakers at one point, which made me giggle. Yes, there were loads of like 14/16 years olds all wearing identical clothes and with really heavy dark eye make-up, and a surprising amount of parents accompanying their kids, but there were a lot of adults too, I kept seeing middle-aged guys in My Chem tees, it was so weird… I wasn’t in the first couple of rows but I was close enough to be able to see the bands look human-sized and not get squished by idiots.

The lights go down and everyone screams and I'm trying not to die before they even start playing, hehe. They came on and played their new song which doesn’t have a name yet, and Gerard talked a little about how Frank and Bob weren’t there but how they were gonna put on the best show ever and it was gonna be “fast and fucking hard!”

I think I could watch Gerard Way prance about on stage all day… he makes the funniest facial expressions, he occasionally had a tambourine, he puts so much energy into it and he was so fucking amazing. I’d seen some vids of them playing live and I hadn’t been impressed with the vocals but he was so good, so, so good on Thursday. He also got his brother to speak (“Do you guys think I look like Darth Vader in this coat?”) and he held the mic over to him during a quiet part of one song but he didn’t sing so there was just silence, hehehe. Oh Mikey Way, so cute. And Ray Toro is a fucking guitar legend… so damn impressive. I love his giant hair!

Then Gerard talks a little about how four years ago, they opened for MSI, and these next two songs are from that time and are really old, and they play Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough, and then Headfirst For Halos (!!) one of my fave songs off their first album. I was already really happy that I’d seen them play those songs, because they don’t usually play stuff from their first album and then…

A little later, they all left the stage except for the guy playing the keyboard, and then Gerard starts singing Cancer, and I am so impressed by his voice, I never thought he’d be able to do it that well live. And everyone was holding their phones and lighters in the air, so the arena looked like beautiful. And when Cancer ends, Ray comes back with an acoustic guitar and starts up with the fucking DESERT SONG and I screamed so hard I probably hurt myself. It’s such a good song, and it’s off the dvd/cd thing they released after Three Cheers, and they never, ever play it live. Never. And he sang it and it was just beautiful.

Other things:

-“I am gonna do something so fucking cheesy, I’m going to amaze even myself… Do you guys know how to do The Wave?” - an arena of 20,000 people do the Mexican Wave.

-“You guys are my gems… my shiny diamonds, my red, red rubies… I want to put you in my pocket and take you home with me” - judging by the screams, very many people (including myself) are amenable to going home with Gerard.

-Near the start, he grabbed his brother’s hair and kind of headbanged it for him and really looked like he was about to push him to his knees, and some people screamed and he’s like “You dirty fuckers!” (Well, if you’d stop molesting your band onstage…)

-Screaming, which is fun. The moaning, which is also pretty awesome...

-Gerard playing the frigging tambourine. So earnest! Really camp! Mikey Way moving about and coming up to the front of the stage instead of hiding in the back. Ray Toro and his awesome thighs, crazy hair and mad guitar playing.

-Pyrotechnics!

Overall, they played almost all of the Black Parade, and a few off Three Cheers (Helena, Cemetery Drive, Give Em Hell Kid, and You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison) and those three awesome gems that I can't even believe I saw.

It was just an amazing gig- a brilliant setlist, I was in a good spot, and even though they were down to three members of the band, they made up for it in energy and played their best, and it was immense. I was so lucky to go (magic luck of tickets! really fucking lucky) and it came at a really good time too. My first My Chemical Romance gig! ♥ ♥ ♥

I will probably update later on about my days in London, nice people with free things, and meeting up with McCrum! I've realised that I can't wait til interesting stuff happens to me before I update, because interesting stuff never does, hehe. *hugs*
