does anyone have this problem with there chihuahuas

my dog demond who is chihuahua he usally has trouble with his neck swelling up well he will get exsited or drink water and start to cough and start having spit come up well last night he keep me up from 3am to 5 am with his coughting does anyone have a dog that does this and if so what do you do about it to help stop it we do take him to the vets

My dog does it too, the vet told me to gently rub his throat :(

Oh and apparently surgery is available for severe cases.. Maybe that's your route if it's really bad?

yea i think i am going to have to go the route of surgary next this time when he did it it was bad it lasted almost 3 hours straight

oh wow yeah, that sounds bad. Lucas only "heaves" for like.. Two minutes, at most.

My dog does this too, but not for that long of a period. We rub his throat, and try to get him to swallow. This helps a lot in making him stop the coughing.

If you don't already, make sure to walk him on a body harness rather than a collar.

yea we had to change to a body harness because he would get out of it and now he gets out of the body harness also but he still starts to cough even with the bady harness on to
