Chapter 3 Mika
“UWWAAAA!!!!!! NUUUUHHHHHHH!!!!! WHERE’S KAZAMA-CHAN?!?!?!?” I shrieked, digging through my bag furiously.
“Kazama-chan? As in the person in Gokusen 3 who played with Takaki-kun?” Chinen asked Yume.
Chinen had been in mine and Yume’s math class since last year and had sat in our group since this. We rarely ever had a chance to talk to him since he was always either gone or surrounded by other girls.
“Iiee… Kazama-chan, as in her panda plushy,” Yume replied nonchalantly, “She’s always had that plushy with her like always have Harvey-chan. Daisuke-kun got it for her while we were on a trip to America.”
“Souka…” chinen said.
“YUME-CHAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!! DO YOU KNOW WHERE KAZAMA-CHAN IS?!?!?!?” I cried, grabbing a hold of her.
“No I don’t, but Yamada-kun and Yabu-kun might have him since we ran into them earlier,” Yume replied in a monotone voice.
“Eh? That was Kazama-chan?” Chinen cut in, “I saw Yamada-kun holding a panda earlier, but I didn’t know that it was yours, Mika-chan.”
“AH?!?!? HONTO-NI CHI-KUN?!?!?!?” I squealed, releasing Yume and grabbed Chinen, shaking him.
“U-uh… h-hai, M-mika-chan,” Chinen said to me in a shaky voice and whimpered to Yume, “Mika-chan is scary, Yumewa-nee-chan.”
“Ah, gomenasai Chii-kun,” I apologized, releasing Chinen.
“D-dai joubou, Mika-chan,” Chinen said.
“Quiet down over there! It’s time for lesson!” Miyavi-sensei yelled over the racket, “Now pull out your textbooks and turn to…”

An hour and a half later, I woke up to Chinen poking me in the cheek and Yume finishing a picture she had just drawn. I grabbed the picture that Yume had just drawn, and examined it. There was a vampire couple walking along a gorgeous moonlit shoreline. Vampires had been Yume’s latest fascination, besides J-pop and Kamiya. She had just drifted into her own little world while completely ignoring class. Chinen and I had fallen into our own world too…. The world of gossip and note passing. Then I just drifted off into sleep halfway through the lesson.
“Humuna…” I grunted as I stuffed my notebook and pencils back into my bag. Thank the Demon Lord that the three of us sat in the back of the room.
The bell rang as I gave another yawn, and Chinen, Yume and I left for English. English was usually more fun than math since there was more to talk about, while talking in a different language, and it was the last class of the day.
As I walked next the Chinen and Yume, I thought about Ryosuke and how he had looked at me when Yume and I were walking away. I remembered his eyes, which gleamed with life, but was so far away. It was as if his body had been there and his mind had been wandering in his thoughts. His hair, fluffy and cute, fluttered in the wind as he was tugged away. The sound of his voice, usually so confident and soft, had been hesitant and even more quiet.
I was so immersed in my thoughts that I crashed into a locker door, slamming it shut, and collapsing on the ground in a daze. Stars danced before my eyes, clouding my vision and making me even more confused.
Through the stars, I saw a figure bend down and hold out a fuzzy hand. I heard a soft yet familiar voice asking if I was okay. As I looked up, waiting for my vision to clear up, I tried to figure out the owner of the voice. I knew I had heard it before, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Trying to remember the voice, I heard Chinen and Yume trying to stifle a snicker, which they managed to turn into something between a snort and a cough.
Slowly, the stars disappeared and my head cleared, I realized who was talking. Speak of the devil, it’s Yamada Ryosuke!
Total déjà vu right there…. So much like an hour ago, I thought to myself. I slowly got up; ignoring Ryosuke’s outstretched hand, and looked up at him… right into his gorgeous, sparkling eyes. I stuttered for a while, lost for words, until I managed to pull myself together and squeak a small, pathetic answer.
Ripping my gaze from his eyes, I glanced over to Yume and Chinen, hoping to get some help from them. Instead, they were slowly backing away, smirking and whispering with each other.
“Mika-chan?” Ryosuke said suddenly.
“Huh?!” I snapped my attention back to him.
“I said here, you dropped your plushy earlier when I accidentally ran into you” he repeated, holding out the panda.
“Arigatou,” I squeaked pathetically, bowing a taking Kazama back.
All of a sudden, Daiki popped up out of nowhere, clapped his hand on mine and Ryosuke’s shoulder and said, “Let’s all walk to class together then! Now that I’ve found you two, we can walk to English together.”
As Daiki pulled us to class, an awkward silence formed around me as Ryosuke and Daiki chatted in hushed tones. My arm was beginning to ache from Daiki’s tightening grip. I couldn’t help but count Daiki’s faint pulse from his fingers as he grabbed my shoulder. His pulse was fast and upbeat, and pounding as if he was anxious and excited. I made myself a mental note to ask Yume later.
By the time we reached the classroom, my shoulder was numb and white while my other arm was sore from holding Kazama and my bag. Daiki finally released us and left to his seat behind Yume. I trudged to my seat next to Yume with Ryosuke close behind since he sat behind me and Yume, next to Daiki. Chinen and Yabu were sitting in front of me and Yume, and Yuto was across the room by the teacher. The girls wished that there were more from their group in our class, but Yume and I were perfectly fine with just having the 5 of them here already.
“Nyehhh… Yumeeeee!!!! Last class finally!!!!! Can I come over after school? I really don’t feel like walking home later… too lazy too,” I asked boredly, already knowing the answer.
“What kind of a question is that?” Yume replied sarcastically, “You always come over, even if I’m busy. But yeah, go ahead, I’m going to be baking anyways…I just need to go to the store first and grab a couple things.”
“Yay! Sweets! Gahhh, stupid store… oh well, it beats walking home alone. What are we baking?”
“I actually don’t know yet. We’re probably going to just bake a shitload of food then bring it to school on Monday and have Daisuke and Kamiya eat it… Reizo’s probably not gonna eat it though… stupid food-o-phobic… You choose what to make…”
“He’s just going to give us a lecture about eating too much sweets and shit… I dunno yet… devil’s food cake? Strawberry shortcake? I know! Let’s make a cheesecake!” I exclaimed, “Can we just make all of them?”
“Yeah, because you know we’ll eat it all. Daisuke and Kamiya can eat it on Monday.”
“Yay!” was my only answer. I was glad that I had something to look forward to for later. I spent the rest of English thinking about Ryosuke and helping Chinen with his least favorite subject.
