(One Shot) It Begins with Surprise and then Ends with Happiness

Shige groaned slightly when the alarm clock on his bedside table rang loudly, disturbing his sleep. He slipped out his hand from under the blanket to reach the oh-so-loud-and so-annoying-alarm-clock. When he got it, he switched it off and throw it under the bed and he goes back to sleep again.
But then, when Shige thought he could sleep peacefully again, he heard the sound of the bedroom door opened and he felt something climbed up the bed. He opened his eyes a little, only to see Nana sitting beside him and barking to wake him up.
“Nana… shut up… let me sleep for awhile…” Shige murmured as he tried to shoo his dog away from the bed.
But as stubborn as her master, Nana didn’t budge and she kept barking until him finally awake.
“Okay, okay! I’m awake now, happy?” Shige swear he could see his dog smirking. He slowly got up into sitting position on the bed and scratching his head not so gently.
“Sheesh, I didn’t remember I ever taught you to wake people up before.” Shige commented to her and Nana just bark in reply.
“Actually I’m the one who taught her, since I knew you’re too lazy to teach her that trick.”
Shige turned his head toward the voice, which belongs to no other than Chika, his girlfriend, whom standing right in front of the bedroom door wearing a white T-shirt with Doraemon picture on it and blue jeans pants. A blue stripped apron hanged on her right hand.
“Ohayou, Shige. Time to get up, the breakfast is almost ready.” Chika said as she removed the blanket from him while Shige sighed groaned slightly.
“Can’t you let me sleep a little longer?” Shige whined like a child being told of by his mom.
“Nonsense. Kei-nii called me just while minutes ago. He and the others are already on their way to here. Now, go wash your face and get ready for breakfast.” Chika said in a firm tone, very mother-like. She’s really like Koyama if she acts like a mother, Shige thought, felt amused. Well, it’s obvious since she’s Koyama’s cousin.
“Yes mom~” Chika glared at him and Shige laughed as he got up from the bed and walked toward the bathroom.

Shige came to the kitchen 10 minutes later, wearing blue T-shirt with Russ-K logo on it and white jeans pants. He saw Chika putting the breakfast on the table. He smiled brightly when he saw omelet as the breakfast. She really know what I like for breakfast, he thought. He then quietly approached her and hugs her waist from behind. Chika gasped at the sudden touch and quickly turned her head toward her boyfriend.
“Mou~ Shige, stop startling me like that again!” She said as she pinched his hand quite hard.
“Itai!”
“Serve you right. Come on, eat now. The others would be here in any minute.”
“Hai, hai…”
30 minutes later, they’ve done eating and now Chika washing the plate while Shige cleaning the table. After awhile, they heard the door bell rang.
“I’ll get it.” Shige said when Chika give him a ‘will-you-open-the-door’ look.

“Ohayou, Shige!” Koyama greeted cheerfully with the rest of NEWS behind him. Shige noticed that some of them brought something with them. Koyama brought some food from his family’s restaurant, Yamapi and Ryo brought drinks (which contain with a lot of beers and juice), Tegoshi brought a lot of snacks, and Massu brought a cake box (Shige wondered what’s the cake for). He greeted them back as they enter his apartment.
“Are? Shige, where’s Chika-chan? I thought she’s here, since she picked up my call this morning.” Koyama asked when he saw there’s no one in the living room.
“I’m here!” Chika shouted from the kitchen as she rubbing the plates and putting them into the cabinet. “Nee, can one of you please lend me a hand here? I need some help from you guys!”
“I’ll go help her, you stay here with everyone.” Koyama said to Shige as he went to the kitchen to help his cousin.
“I’ll go help too.” Massu said as he brings the cake box with him to the kitchen.
After Koyama and Massu disappeared into the kitchen, Shige then turn back to the other members, whom make themselves comfortably in the living room. Ryo and Yamapi rummaging his DVD collection while Tegoshi playing with Nana.
“Hey Shige, do you have another interesting movies we could watch? We have watched all of these.” Ryo asked.
“No, sorry. That’s the only collection I have right now since I don’t have time to buy any new DVD.”
“Too bad, then I guess we’re going to watch our concert DVD today.” Yamapi said which make Ryo groans and Tegoshi laughs.
A few minutes later, Koyama came out from the kitchen while holding a blindfold. He gave Ryo, Yamapi, and Tegoshi a signal to do their plan.
“Hey, what’s the blindfold for?” Shige asked.
Koyama just grinned at him, and without answering the question he closed Shige’s eyes with the blindfold. Ryo and Yamapi immediately held both his hands to prevent him from struggling.
“Oi! What are you guys doing!?”
“Don’t worry Shige, we won’t do anything funny to you. Just stay here and don’t open the blindfold. Ryo-chan, keep an eye of him for me while I get the thing ‘kay?” Koyama said as he goes back to the kitchen while Ryo and Yamapi still holding Shige’s hands.
Shige just sat helplessly on the carpet, knowing that he wouldn’t get free from them. After awhile, he heard him walked back to the living room with someone.
“Okay, you can open the blindfold now.” With that, Ryo and Yamapi let go off his hands and let him open the blindfold himself.
When he opened the blindfold, Shige can’t help but surprised when he took a sight of a big birthday cake in front of him. On the cake, written ‘Happy 22th Birthday Kato Shigeaki’ neatly in English and also a cute picture of him holding a fish rod and fish in his hands under the birthday sentences. Shige then looked at his girlfriend -who’s holding the cake- and his band mates, who smiles widely in front of him and the cake.
“Happy birthday, Shige!!”
“Minna…” Shige really surprised so he couldn’t say anything else.
“I knew you wouldn’t remember your own birthday, so I planned this birthday party with everyone without you noticed. Kei-nii and everyone gladly helped me with it.” Chika said, clearly happy that Shige surprised with their plan.
“Arigatou minna…” Shige said at his band mates. He then looked at Chika. “Arigatou… Chika.”
Chika smiled back and give him a quick peck on the lips. “You’re welcome.”
The others just grinned widely at the couple in front of them. Koyama then signaled him to blow the candles. He then blew the candles and everyone cheered.
“Come on, let’s eat the cake and the food!” Massu said happily as he hands the knife to Shige.
Chika cut the cake and Shige helped him placing it on the plate while Koyama pass the cake to everyone. Later then, they eat the food Koyama brought while watching NEWS concert DVD (Ryo whined at this, but he still watched it until finish).

[Shige’s apartment, 19:00pm]
Yamapi and Ryo went back first since they’re promised to meet Jin in his apartment. Tegoshi and Massu then went home two hours later because tomorrow they have an interview about their latest single. Koyama was the last one because he’s helping Chika and Shige cleaning the mess they made first before going home.
After that in the living room, Shige stared at the gifts he got from his band mates. Koyama gave him a nice gray jacket from Russ-K (Koyama said once that Shige looks really good in gray color), Ryo gave him a book about fishing (How did he knew that I really wanted this book? Shige thought), Massu gave him a cooking book (Massu said that since Shige likes fishing, he maybe wants to try to cook a dish with fish as the main ingredient), Yamapi gave him a D&G perfume (I’m surprised he knows that I like this perfume, Shige thought), and Tegoshi gave him a book about world’s law (Shige thanked him inwardly since he’s kind of need this book for his study).
Meanwhile Chika has just done taking a bath, and now she’s changing her clothes with one of Shige’s T-shirt. After done, she then goes to the living room and she saw him reading the book Ryo gave to him.
“Shige.” Chika called for his attention and Shige, who heard it, closed the book and then looked at her. Chika stood in front of him, wearing his old white T-shirt and also purple short pants. This is not the first time she sleeps over in his apartment, but still… Shige can’t help it but gaping at her sight.
“You look really good with that T-shirt.” Shige said to her, trying hard to hide his blush. He’s lucky that she didn’t notice it.
“Thanks for the compliment.” She replied as she sat beside him and takes a good look at Shige’s birthday presents. “Are these all from them?”
“Yeah… this one is from Koyama, this is from Tegoshi, this is from Massu…” He said as he pointed at the gifts.
“That one?” Chika asked as she pointed at the book Ryo’s holding.
“It’s from Nishikido-kun.”
“Eh!? Ryo-chan gave you that? Huwaa, he’s really nice ne?” She picked the perfume bottle. “I guess Yamapi gave you this ne?”
“Yup… and now that I remember, you haven’t given me my birthday present yet.”
“I already gave you a birthday cake right?”
“That’s not even a gift, that’s only a cake. Now, where’s my birthday present?” Shige demanded like a child and that makes Chika laughed.
“You’re really like a child… okay okay, you got me. Here’s your birthday present from me.” Chika said as she handed him a small box wrapped in a green ribbon.
Shige accepted it and then open it. Inside the box, there’s a silver pocket watch with his name -written in kanji- carved in the front lit. He looked at it in awe.
“So…? Do you like my present?” Chika asked, anxious waiting for Shige’s reply.
“I don’t like it… I love it!!” Shige exclaimed while grinning widely like a child, who’s got his favorite ice-cream. He then hugged her tightly, making her surprised.
:”Shige!” After awhile, Shige let go of her and then put his hand on her cheeks.
“Thank you very much… I really love it.” Shige said as he caressed Chika’s cheek and then kissed her cheek.
“I’m glad you love it. Actually I’m a bit confused before, what should I give for your birthday present. And then… when I walked around Shibuya I accidentally bumped someone and I dropped some of his groceries, so I helped him. Later then he told me he’s the owner of the clock store in Shibuya. Well… that’s it. I bought the watch from his store and I requested it to be carved with your name.”
“Hontou?” She nodded. “Well then, I also have something for you. Could you close your eyes for awhile?”
“Okay.” And then Chika closed her eyes, waiting for Shige to reveal his surprise to her. He heard Shige moved from living room toward his bedroom and then back to the living room again.
“Okay… you can open your eyes now.” Shige said to her.
Chika opened her eyes slowly and she saw Shige kneel in front of her while holding a small black box, inside of it there’s a silver ring with a small diamond attached on it.
“Shige… this, this is…”
“I knew we only met a few years ago, but you love me and accept me for who I am. I knew that we rarely met each other because of my busy schedule, but I’m really glad that you’re always by my side. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I want to make a beautiful and happy family with you only. More importantly, I want you to be by my side and I want to be with you forever. Therefore…”
He paused for awhile, feeling really nervous all of a sudden. While Chika held her breathe, waiting for Shige to finish his line.
“Koyama Chika, would you marry me?”
Chika stared at him with surprised but teary eyes as he said those sacred words, she felt really happy that finally Shige proposed her. She let the tears that cluttered in her eyes fell freely as she hugged him tightly.
“Of course I’ll marry you, Shige. I love you very much.”
After her tears subsided, Shige released her and took the ring from the box. He slipped it to her finger, and then he gave her a chaste kiss on the lips.
Their happiness would begin after this.
