i can read hebrew, but the grammar has always been a total mystery to me. i get the feeling it's one of those languages that you're really better off just picking up from listening to it and stuff rather than trying to teach yourself the technicalities right off the bat.

Na solange das keine Beschäftigungstherapie ist... ;o)
Wenn Du das lernen willst (ich denke mal ja, so wie ich Dich kenne), dann schaffste das schon. Ist sicher trotzdem leichter als mancher Uni-Kram.
Noch ne schöne Woche in der Ferne Euch beiden!

i believe it will be easy for you, once you realize that there's a system and a certain music in this language, especially when conjugating verbs (and there are almost no irregularities). just, as i told you, i think this book you got is not the best. my first book on German was a popular phrases broshure for tourists - it was rather hard to derive any grammar rules from it...

my 3rd! [university] degree that i am still working on finishing is in religious studies...and i have found Judaic mysticism has got to be some of the most interesting of the major current religions...and the abstract/philosophical math in the Tora is fascinating :)

...in general, i would say Hebrew is quite a "do it yourself" language.
