I know what you mean. Everyone seems to be pretty blah everyday, but when its Christmas, they magically get happy. I blame it on advertising. Your idea of making Christmas like everyday with random presents is great. You've got a very good quality that most lack. Unfortunately, since most others lack it, they won't understand or appreciate your random gift as much as they should.
I think everyone's lost sight of the religious value of Christmas and turned it into a commercial icon. I know a ton of agnostic, atheist and even Jewish families that have Christmas trees in their houses, Christmas lights and presents under the tree. So I'd say that it's no sin for a non-believer like you to go out and enjoy the holidays.
