I'm still leaning toward suicide, but here are some more articles:

The Smoking Gun (with police report)It's so sad to know he's gone. He was such a brilliant writer, a beautiful voice, and just an all-round amazing artist who so accurately displayed his emotions in every song. He will be missed ( Read more... )

I really do want to thank you with all this info. I never thought I'd get interested in Mr. Smith's music, but I decided to give it a listen. I found that I liked it a bit. Sad that I had to find it after his death. And now with all these links saying it might not be a suicide and maybe a murder, I'm glad to be informed. Maybe its just me, but I'm suspecting that a few scene kids are glorifying his suicide, since he was a depressed guy. Oh well. Anything goes.

I think it's more that just scene queens glorifying his suicide; there's a lot of evidence suggesting murder..

I didn't clarify myself in my post, I meant to say that some scene kids might be putting him up so high, because they believe it was a suicide, and that news that it could be a murder would take that glory away. I personally believe it was a murder, he was in the middle of recording an album and even asked a friend to com eand help him. Even depressed guys wouldn't call a friend over and then commit suicide. Maybe.

the whole autopsy report really disturbed me when i first read it. i still can't believe the guy's dead. and i'm not sure if knowing if he was murdered or not would make any of it better. either way, he's still not coming back.

and you're right, all of his songs are amazing. :)

yeah.. it was disturbing.. especially when theres no hesitation wounds and he wasn't on any illegal drugs..

true, regardless of what happened, hes still gone, however I think I would be angry if it was a murder, because I feel he had a pure soul that was just corrupted by the worst things in life and, sorry to be morbid, but suicide seemed to fit him.. I don't like the idea of him being taken away by someone else before he finally learned how to enjoy life

Fuck yeah dude! Elliot Smith is/was one talented motherfucker. And all this shit about him getting murdered, fuck that. Homicide from a bitchy ass ladyfriend aint no way to go, not for this cool cat. It's either he's so damn willful that he pushed a knife through his breastplate, or he went the way of Tupac and Steve Buscemi(both not dead).
