Dear RL

No idea why this update. Maybe just to stop the claggy mud at the bottom of the drained duckpond that is my LJ entirely drying out, on the offchance there is a buried fish or two somewhere in the weed. Hello, fish ( Read more... )

Your comments make me do all kinds of things. Sounding sympathetic i my general vicinity at the moment is probably vaguely dangerous, as I'm likely to move in, complete with prompt sheet of general complaints.

Yes, let's do a compulsory undergraduate exchange. You check if mine are breathing, I'll poke yours and see if their reflexes suggest they are alive.

Honestly, I usually like what I do...

came shuffling over here in the hope that you'd written some more Grumpy!Sean and Yearning!Viggo, and instead I find this. Oh dear. IMHO many publishers are both incompetent and illiterate (obviously I wasn't but then again, I'm resting up having fun). Am indecently curious about who is supposed to be publishing you - realise you can't say, but will use imagination... wish could help you... Perhaps a little slashy distraction would cheer you up (immediate glowing feedback, no page proofs to check,no pointless discussion of rising rate royalties on imaginary sales above the first 1000)??

You tempt me, you really do... I had an urge to write VigBean the other night - it may well come back, which would be inconvenient, but maybe add more to the sum of human happiness than another academic tome.

The Incompetent and the Illiterate are decent mainstream academic publishers, though not first class, one in the UK, one in Ireland.

(You don't still work in publishing and fancy a serious-minded monograph on a major modernist and a slightly intellectually-frivolous collection of essays on a contemporary Irish writer, do you? Clearly not, if you are resting and having fun. Boo hiss.)

You had a VigBean urge?! Mmm, what would it take to pull you off your footnotes and back into slash *wonders ( ... )

I'm still having the VigBean Urge. Who knows where it may lead...?

Is it possible we may have met in the flesh at some point? I was at the meeting where the Oxford English Faculty got rather shirty about the demise of the OUP poetry list... OUP are interested in the next book and I'm hoping to flog the Next Book in Which I'm Actually Interested to CUP... so keep lunching, though I can't help now wondering who you are, and whether I remember any horse-owning publishing people who looked like they liked their slash grumpy...

Back to the footnotes, alas.
