It was your usual early morning routine for Matt. Once again he had woken up in the wee hours of the morning to go out and run around the rooftops of Fandom. For the past few weeks it had been pretty much a dry and usual routine with nothing interesting happening whatsoever.
Until he spotted something unusual...
Ghost
There was an invisible figure standing on one of the rooftops of the abandoned warehouse district. This was not of note to most people due to the invisible factor.
But, he was there. Watching one Tony Stark go for his usual morning run.
Matt
Invisible? Yes. To most people. But not for a guy with certain enhanced senses who just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
In some cases this was not an unusual sight in Fandom. However this guy had an odd vibe about him.
So Matt took up his own position in the shadows to try and figure out who this mystery man was and what he was up to.
Ghost
Well. This particular person was also armed with a sniper rifle. One that he pulled out in order to follow Stark through the scope.
Easier job than he'd expected. Not that it was ever really one, so...
Matt
And as soon as the gun came out, Matt wasted no time jumping out from his hiding spot and throwing his billy club at an exhaust port which ricochet off to fly directly at the assassin's head.
"I don't know what you think you're doing," Matt growled in his best Christian Bale/Danny Pudi/Ratman voice, "But I suggest getting off this island. Now."
Ghost
That was unexpected. But it wasn't about to throw him too much off track. There were other times to take the shot.
"You sure you want to do this, kid?" he asked dryly, shouldering the gun.
Matt
"Nope. Not at all," Matt replied in a no-nonsense tone as his billy club some how ricochet off an old drainpipe to fly back in his hand.
"So why don't you just go home and save both of us a lot of trouble."
Ghost
"Love to," he replied, arms crossed over his chest. "Just as soon as I finish one little job."
Matt
Matt nodded off in a certain direction. "I hear there's nightclub in town that always needs a deejay."
Ghost
"Cute."
Or not. Probably not as he aimed a smaller gun at Matt.
"Now get out of my way. I don't like collateral damage, but if it happens, it happens."
Matt
"You have to hit me first," Matt replied and threw the billy club again in another amazing trajectory that bounced around the roof and eventually toward the assassin's weapon. Meanwhile Matt was already doing a backflip out of the way.
Ghost
Which would have normally worked had he not very suddenly been less than strictly tangible.
"Dropped something," he replied, slowly walking toward the kid. In no hurry at all.
Matt
Matt scowled. "Nice trick."
He jumped forward into a handspring and then to the side in order to catch the billy club and this time didn't bother with the fancy bouncing off of walls. He threw it exactly at the killer's head.
Ghost
Swing and a miss! It was like fighting Kitty Pryde there.
"That tickled," he said, putting the gun away. Not a threat here.
Matt
"Glad you find this amusing," Matt snapped back.
"I don't know who you're after here but if you think I'm going to let you harm anyone on this island, you're mistaken," he said taking another stance. "I don't care how ghost-like you get."
What? You wanted witty patter? Spider-man isn't on this island.
Ghost
Damn it, Spider-man!
He smirked, slowly slipping down into the building below them. "Catch you later, kid."
Matt
Matt swore under his breath and grabbed his billy club. Seconds later he was jumping off the roof to make his way down to the ground.
If he found the assassin once, he could do it again. Matt had a feeling he needed to do it fast before someone got hurt.
And if Matt somehow neglected to crash through the skylight that was nearby? Well that's some other character's schtick and we're not going to infringe on that trademark infringement.
