Fellow pilot of Unit-00. First person from his world that spoke to him on the community who didn't ragequit on him when they realized he was much farther in the past than any of them realized (lookin' at you, Asuka). Rei IV has confused Shinji with her talk of timelines in danger and the self that is on the community, but she's promised to help him in any way she can, and more importantly, she's promised to be his friend.
The faithful guardian. Shinji has discovered her penchant for teasing him and drinking at dinner. In canon, he thinks she's nice. Weird, but nice. On the comm, Misato (who is post EoE) has pretended to come from the same point in time to keep him from greater suffering during the times they've talked. Following the Harry Potter Virus, Shinji finally realized that she is not from his timeline and confronted her. She continues to encourage him from the sidelines despite the time distance.
ASUKA LANGLEY SORYUU KAWORU NAGISA
Pilot of Unit-02 hailing from Germany. At the beginning, they didn't get along, at all. Asuka was angry at the circumstances regarding his return, and Shinji didn't know how to deal with the sudden, intense hostility. He's met her in-canon by now and he knows that the Asuka on the community is in the future which gives their relationship some twists. It seems that one moment she says she hates him, and the next, they're awkwardly bonding. It's all very odd. Gave him an anonymous smooch at the 2010 Halloween party.
Complete unknown. They've never talked talked, but Kaworu keeps an eye on him and they've met twice: once during the Harry Potter virus with Kaworu in his Animagus form, and at the 2010 Halloween party when he was masked. MINATSUKI TAKAMI | DEADMAN WONDERLAND
The awesome quasi-older sister type that Shinji first got to know and like on the community. Eva isn't the place for adults who are emotionally honest so meeting Pam was kind of a shock to his system. Adults can be nice? And treat you like you're a person, not a pawn? MADNESS. She let him crash during his post-ep.3 running away and showed him something totally alien--fall. The go-to girl for talking about his issues.
Asuka 2.0, Darker and Edgier version. She yells at him, berates him, calls him a coward, hits him whenever he says sorry...regardless of all that, Shinji thinks of her as someone he could potentially trust. He doesn't understand that she yells because she cares nor will he for a very long time. No matter how she treats him, he will be glad when she's safe and out of Deadman Wonderland for good.
SHELLY DE KILLER | ACE ATTORNEY HENRY | NO MORE HEROES
Future dad figure that kills people for a living. That's totally normal, right. Right. Anyway, after shoving his terror and disgust at meeting someone who unapologetic about his assassin duties into a far corner, he's discovered that Shelly's rather quite kind and polite. Confusion go!
Other future dad figure that kills people for a living. Shinji tends to take a seat on the metaphorical therapists' couch whenever they talk, but Henry's stated that he doesn't mind. Received a stray puppy that followed Shinji home who was christened with the name Murdock (hurr hurr, accidental symbolism).
GANTA IGARASHI | DEADMAN WONDERLAND JOSHUA PRESTON | BLISS STAGE
Captain Ersatz for our young boy hero. Imagine Shinji with a backbone and you've got Ganta. They've hit it off fairly well: talking about how weird the world is, bitching about Asuka. It's good times. Shinji hopes to talk to him more.
A bit of a mystery. They've had great conversations on a variety of things and they've bonded over horrible things happening to them in their childhood, but it's behind the scenes where things get interesting. When he offered to jump in and help fight the Angels, he was promptly met with a no. It frustrated Josh, but he doesn't know Instrumentality has to occur or else the world is in even worse shape than it is already. Shinji doesn't know about any of this. As canon moves on, this shit's gonna get real.

Considering that Greed is well...Greed, Shinji does see him as selfish and overall, just plain odd. Their conversations verge on crack. Yet somehow, Shinji feels better after speaking to him. That or just plain weirded out, one or the other.

Someone else with a massive guilt complex and depression? LET'S BE FRIENDS WITH THEM. And thus, the fail confidence boosting and discussions on the nature of what a person is entitled to was born. Needless to say, they are friends in their own "): life y u do dis" way.
They got off on the worst foot imaginable. Shinji asked about family, Azula began to talk about her own, Shinji talked about his, Azula started to accidentally dig at the MY MOM IS DEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD gash that's never fully healed.... He signed off on her in a fit of total despair. Lilith apologized on her behalf, but he is wary. He does not forgive easy.
WILLOW ROSENBERG | BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
MINAKO ARISATO | PERSONA 3 PORTABLE
The pep talker. Willow has been incredibly kind to him despite the fact that their perfect strangers. She thanked him for his work as an Eva pilot, she said they could be friends, she's offered to hang out with him once he has time.... It's overwhelming in a good way.
They first met when she praised his cello playing and expressed regret at not having the time to pick a musical instrument. Anybody that loves music has to be a good person. But talks of after-school meetings and never having enough time in the day are beginning to worry him. It sounds much too much like his work for NERV.

Ah, Zapp. What can be said about him? Ladies' man, debonair captain of DOOP, and in Shinji's mind, a total idiot. He is pretty much the epitome of what Shinji doesn't like in people. Sorry bro.
