I sponsor four children through Children International, and today I received the letter telling me what they'll be receiving for Christmas. :D So I thought I would share it with all of you. <3

My little one, Vani, is 6 and lives in Chile. CI is giving her a new pair of sneakers. The last few letters have mentioned that her favorite color has shifted from red to pink. While it breaks my rebel heart to realize she's succumbed to the pink little girl cult, it makes my Christmas shopping ridiculously easy, and it's awfully convenient that Chile's seasons are opposite ours since whatever's on the clearance racks is what's now coming into season there. I picked up a pink surfer girl cap-sleeved t-shirt, khaki denim boarder-style shorts with pink embroidered flowers, a pink pullover with tribal-style hearts screened onto the front, and the cutest little sparkly pink hat EVER. It's more than I usually send, but it totaled under $20. So her favorite color better still be pink! :-)

hahaha, I'm sorry to say that pink is my favourite colour, too! xD

That sounds like a really awesome gift, and I'm impressed that you went and picked it out yourself. :D So thoughtful! I'm sure she'll be happy to get it. :)

Have one, Anusha, 14, who lives in SriLanka in an orphanage. Her birthday is next week so I received an email from the program sponsor with photos of her birthday celebration (they had it this week because next week she's going to visit her dad and stepmother... they can't keep her at home because they can't afford it, but from what she says they aren't very nice to her anyway). She got a cake, a new outfit from me and another small gift (I think a handbag). They don't celebrate Christmas at the orphanage because many of the children aren't christian.

Sounds like she's in a bit of a tough situation there. So that's great that she got to celebrate her birthday like that. :D

This is one thing I wonder about Children International. They distribute Christmas gifts to all of the children in their program, but I wouldn't think that Christmas would be a tradition in some of those countries. Either way, I guess it is a good opportunity to get Christmas-celebrating sponsors donating.
