Speaking of mushrooms: I couldn't sleep this morning so I went to farmers market at 6:30 AM and bought 2 pounds of oyster mushrooms. Perhaps we could fry it in butter and put it in a white cream pasta sauce tonight?
I hate to say "we bonded," because that sounds like we traded deep dark secrets into the wee hours, which was not the case. That sort of bonding is less and less real to me as time passes - it's too much too soon, so bound for trouble or dissipation.
Interesting. On one level I agree with you--I've found that deep-dark-secrets type of bonding rarely occurs in my life anymore, while the slowly getting to know people type of bonding is how things generally work in the "real world."
But...when that deep-dark-secrets type bonding does occur, it is such a rush. I had it happen recently, and I love the heady feeling it brings--the instant, electric like connection that makes you feel like you've known someone forever in, like, two hours.
I would never give it up, but I am happy that it is a rare thing. :)
It is an increasingly rare thing, and when it happens, and it's a real bonding, it's wonderful. However, I guess what I was referring to was more the "microwave friendship" phenomenon that seemed to be more prevalent in college than now. In those cases, you stay up into the wee hours, share lots and lots, and then you either engage in a whirlwind "best friends" sort of relationship (much like a romantic affair) and have a nasty break-up, or you're good friends for awhile, but it fades over time as you realize that sharing information isn't the end-all-be-all of a working friendship
( ... )
Seriously, i'm way jealous. Very cool. Susan Palwick seems like good people, as does her partner (i'm pretty sure he's her husband, for the record). I'm glad y'all had a good time.
