Reasons to be glad Louise Mensch has gone:1) She was a cheerleader for Cameron and Murdoch. While one expects support for the PM from any Tory to some degree, Mensch's cheerleading was often in flagrant disregard of the facts and certainly had the appearance of being one of two things: either entirely self-serving from a career point of view, or ( Read more... )

As well as potentially making selection committees (or whoever it is chooses MPs) think twice about selecting a woman, it also reinforces to other women the idea that being an MP is fundamentally incompatible with having a family/family life.

Also, she was an MP who had done something else first, not one of those who'd just gone straight from PPE at Oxbridge to political adviser to MP with no real-world experience. Didn't seem to help her have any idea of how the real world worked, but it was at least different.

Yes, your second point should, by all that's right, be correct - but as you say, in practical terms it didn't make any difference.

I hope that selection committees don't think twice about appointing a woman on this basis - with her family spit between NY and London, her situation was fairly extreme.

perhaps now the redevelopment of Corby town centre can continue? Dear Louise put the kybosh on it as soon as she got in and left it in a state of limbo

I'm a bit grossed out by "this decision will make it harder for other women to X, because misogynists will..." The point of misogyny is that women can't win: blame the misogynists, not the woman.
