It's all about planning baby. Though honestly I'm not convinced RDM & Eick have much of a plan but their outline is rather well defined imo.

They probably don't, but things like this aren't coincidental. The guys KNEW that painting had a story, but they didn't pull a D & C and act all 'See the painting last ep? HUGE storytelling moment.' Instead they left it ambiguous and THEN went back to it when they wanted to.
