airbus has a fly by wire control system, which actually has turned out to be much safer in totality than more human based systems (since computers don't get tired, don't have social constraints or language communications issues, and don't have conflicting training). However, software is reliant on inputs and if the inputs don't work correctly...(a la the metro crash or the brazil crash supposedly).

yup. it's also interesting to hear how multiply-redundant their software systems are, to the extent of running them on different hardware, using software written in different languages.
