giant eagle is decent - depending on where you're at. it typically doesn't have much more than meijer has to offer though, unless you're in a really hippy area, which you may very well be in. they have a nice gas stations too. you'll also probably love the gas stations called Sheetz, which are possibly the things i miss the most from PA. i think you're living in a pretty jazzy area, but i'll have to ask my friends. i actually think my good friend lived in that neighborhood for awhile so if you want the names of good coffee houses, places to eat, etc. i can let you know. my ex also went to pitt so if you need to know anything about that i can help too. off the top of my head i recommend a place to eat called LuLu's. FANTASTIC food and atmosphere. the hills, 3 million bridges, and tunnels take getting used to. i never really did get used to them though haha. there's an amazing morning radio show on 96.1 that kept me from wanting to kill myself for 2 years. they are hysterical guys in a very non-radio show sort of way. i could go on for
( ... )
OH! now that i think of it, you also live like 2 seconds from Whole Foods (which may be what you are referring to as Giant Eagle?) Giant Eagle is a normal, smaller grocery store chain. Kinda like Kroger in MI, but a tad nicer. Whole Foods on the other hand is a huge and amazingly awesome natural foods/produce market that I fell in love with and would drive the hour there and back simply to get food that I couldn't get at Giant Eagle. They have an insane amount of fresh produce and ethnic food staples, as well as vegan, vegetarian, tons of health foods, etc. It's like a couple streets south of you I think. ok I'm done rambling now. for serious.
i lived an hour south from pittsburgh for a year (uniontown), then i moved and was about a half hour south (charleroi). i worked in brownsville cuz it was cheap rent for my boss (and is one of the saddest, most depressing, run down towns in the area). i probably would have lived in the city if i had had enough money to commute. but yeah new places are fun! and pittsburgh definitely has its charms and uniquenesses.
i have a wedding to go to in Pitts at the beginning of June - will you be moved there by then?? if not i'll visit ya whenever you get settled! and seriously, if you need ANYTHING, even what is the best bank or the better mall, let me know!!
the word that stands out more than anything in your journal post is 'crossroads'. partly because it instantly makes me think of bone thugs and partly because it's such a painfully simplistic, accurate truth. dang :(
