lovesong of a sunflower.

little do you heed this face I turn
to you, whose looks do truly burn
this heart of mine, so green and new
that beats the earth and all that's true.

these petals of mine--my fleshy hands,
are far to reach your silky strands,
and they, like tears, will drop like rain
which feeds my thirst for you again.

like endless thread, my stalk is long,
which woven, with love, is pure and strong
yet this, my stem, won't hold you to me,
thus body and heart will break in three.

my leaves are none but scanty rags
to clothe what's bare...white lowly flags,
resigning to the thing I am,
this flower pining for a man.

so if such stories can arise,
let my body form a guise--
a maiden since my love began,
this flower pining for a man.
